Trivia

  • Pikipek was first revealed in the very first look at Pokémon Sun and Moon, in a wire frame form when its in-game model was still being made.

Origin

Pikipek is based on an woodpecker, though not apparently which specific species, as many have a red tuft on their heads, similar to Pikipek.

Etymology

Pikipek comes from Picus (Lation for "woodpecker") or pick and peck.

Its Japanese name, Tsutsukera, comes from 突き (tsutsuki, pecking) and 啄木鳥 (keratsutsuki, woodpecker).
