Pichu is one of the playable Pokémon fighters in the Super Smash Bros. series, representing its species of the same name. It first appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee and had an absence from a few following installments up until returning in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In both games Pichu has to be unlocked first.
Pichu is the quicker yet weaker echo fighter of Pikachu, and it uses all the same moves except Pikachu's up special, Quick Attack, with Pichu instead having Agility as its up special. Although the species is the pre-evolved form of Pikachu in the Pokémon franchise, the same does not apply for the Super Smash Bros. series.
Pichu's species have been represented in the form of collectible items, such as a trophy, in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
Appearances[]
Super Smash Bros. Melee[]
Pichu is a playable fighter who can be unlocked by either clearing the event Lv. 37: Legendary Pokémon or after playing 200 Versus matches; in both cases, once the criteria has been fulfilled, the player's fighter has to defeat Pichu on the Pokémon Stadium stage.
Pichu is the lightest fighter in the game and the only one to have two taunts.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
Pichu was given the same Final Smash as Pikachu, Volt Tackle. Some of Pichu's moves cause minor damage to itself, such as Volt Tackle, although Pikachu's does not.
Given its absence from the Super Smash Bros. series for 17 years, Pichu would not receive his own stage entrance until Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Like the other Pokémon fighters, Pichu appears onstage by coming out of a Poké Ball thrown on stage, although with the addition of punching both fists in the air and saying its name before landing.

Palutena's Guidance[]
- Pit: Awwwww! It's a baby Pikachu!
- Palutena: That's Pichu. It's the form before it evolves into Pikachu. Pichu is still learning to harness its electrical power, so it takes damage whenever it uses electricity.
- Pit: Just looking at Pichu makes me want to cheer it on. You can do it, Pichu! Kick his butt!
- Palutena: Pichu might be cute, but don't underestimate it. Its small stature allows it to move very quickly. Look out for grabs after it dashes.
- Pit: Why is it that smaller fighters are always fast?
- Palutena: You'll understand when you grow up, Pit. One day, you'll wake up unable to do things you could in the past.
- Pit: That's...depressing. Ohhhhhhhh. Is that what it's like for you, Lady Palutena?
- Palutena: Don't make me smite you.
Super Smash Blog bio[]
"Pichu is back after 17 years! Pichu's electric attacks have greater range and do more damage than its other attack types – but they also damage Pichu."
amiibo[]
- A Tiny Mouse Pokémon™, Pichu charges itself with electricity more easily on days with thunderclouds or when the air is very dry. You can hear the crackling of static electricity coming off this Pokémon. Pichu has been known to flaunt its courage by touching tails with others and setting off sparks.
