PP Up is an item introduced in Generation I.

Effect[]

PP Up is a vitamin that increases the max PP of a selected move of one Pokémon by 1/5. Only up to three PP Ups can be used on a certain move, just like PP Max, which has the effect of three PP Ups combined. The effects of a PP Up are wasted if it is used on a move that a Pokémon had forgotten. Sketch and Revival Blessing are the only two moves that PP Up cannot be used on. PP Up is not usable in battle unless it is used in conjunction with Fling, having a power of 30. From Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version onward, using PP Up on a Pokémon increases its friendship with the player slightly.

In the Generation I and Generation II games, the PP Up adds only 7 PP to a move with a base PP of 40, totaling 61 PP if three PP Ups are used, because the game data cannot store PP values any higher than 63.
