Ash and Goh visit a Pokémon Center for Farfetch'd and Scizor, who are exhausted from training. But then Ash's Pokémon device, the Rotom Phone, receives an official World Coronation Series match. And believe or not, the opponents in question are Rinto and Gallade, who have defeated Ash before. Can Ash and Farfetch'd win this time? A battle with the pride of a knight on the line now begins!

Episode plot

Farfetch'd and Scizor are seen sparring at Cerise Park. After seeing Farfetch'd and Scizor sparring match, Grookey shows its interest in battling, which Goh likes to see for it. Upon seeing their exhausted Pokémon, Ash and Goh take their Pokémon to the Pokémon Center in order to heal them. While heading over to the Pokémon Center, a wild Bellsprout appeared as it looked weak but Grookey helped it recover. Goh was surprised when Grookey takes a Poké Ball from his pocket but understands that Bellsprout wants to join them because they saved its life, then happily catches it.

At the Pokémon Center, Ash and Goh received their healed Pokémon, but Ash brings out Farfetch'd as he's happy that he's feeling better. However, Ash gets a World Coronation Series alert as he sees that Rinto and his Gallade are in the Great Class. Ash greets Rinto then finds out that the reason why he didn't appear on his Rotom Phone before was because he wasn't in the same class with him. Due to being in the same class, Ash challenges Rinto to battle, which he accepts, then uses the same Pokémon they did in their last battle. During the battle, Ash's Farfetch'd and Rinto's Gallade seem to be evenly matched in strength, but Rinto believes that Farfetch'd needs more training in being in sync. However, Farfetch'd became shocked when his leek split into two, but Ash not only encouraged him to continue but also use the broken off piece as a shield, using Wikstrom's Aegislash as the example.

Realizing that Ash's is right, Farfetch'd picked up his broken off leek and continues on battling Gallade as he's able to use both defense and offense through two of his leek. However, after Gallade landed a powerful attack on Farfetch'd, he was sent flying towards Ash, as he gotten shaken up again. Although, through Ash's words and wanting to prove how strong he became, Farfetch'd became more determined to beat Gallade as he and his Trainer want to prove the Blade Pokémon and Rinto how much they grown together. Farfetch'd landed some critical hits on Gallade as he took some damage. However, before Gallade could give another attack, Farfetch'd started to glow, much to everyone's surprised, as he started to evolve into Sirfetch'd.

After evolving, Sirfetch'd got the upper hand on Gallade as he continued using both defense and offense. Although Gallade activated his Justified, Sirfetch'd was still able to defeat the Blade Pokémon, which increased Ash's rank. After the battle, Ash and Rinto shook hands for a good battle. While walking back to Cerise Laboratory, Goh comments that Farfetch'd evolve into Sirfetch'd was because he wanted to protect Ash and Wikstrom pointed out that protecting others is part of chivalry. Sensing a car about to hit a puddle, Sirfetch'd put himself in the way of puddle so he would get wet instead of Ash, which causes Goh to tell his friend that he protected him again.
