Today is the Pokémon Orienteering event. The event is to showcase the Pokémon available in Vermilion City. Children will be led by Ash, Goh and Cerise in three different groups. The goal is to showcase as many Pokémon as possible before reaching the main checkpoint.

Ash's group comes across a Persian and three Meowth that pursue a Rattata. A Raticate arrives and a furious battle ensues between the Pokémon. Officer Jenny disperses the altercation and chastises Ash for getting too close to wild Pokémon and abandoning young children. Ash sets his sight on a new learning activity for the children and introduces them to Jenny's Growlithe. In the distance, Team Rocket spots this, wishing to utilize this event to steal as many Pokémon as possible.

Goh's group comes across a Pidgey, which Goh captures with ease. He notes movement in the greenery and catches a male and female Nidoran. Chloe tells Goh to actually teach the children something, to which Goh uses his Pokédex to showcase information about the Pokémon. Goh is on a capturing streak until a Farfetch'd rejects him.

Ash is challenged by another Trainer named Seiya in the World Coronation Series. They dual with Pikachu and Meganium. Seiya is confident electricity will do nothing to his grass-type. Pikachu takes Seiya by surprise and wins. Ash is boosted from rank 3,763 to 1,512. Ash tells the kids and Seiya that battle is about friendship between the Pokémon and trainer, also revealing he wishes to become a Pokémon master in the future.

Three groups meet at the harbor where two cloaked figures, none other than Jessie and James, point out a Lugia that everyone should try to defeat in a raid. When the teams use their Pokémon, Team Rocket reveals the Lugia is actually a hot air balloon and takes the Pokémon captive. Team Rocket fails as the balloon loses hot air and descends for the captive Pokémon to escape.

Cerise announces the yellow team won the event. Ash apologizes to his team for not winning. Goh finally captures the Farfetch'd and the hot air balloon turns out to be a transformed Mew.

  • Who's That Pokémon?:" Farfetch'd
  • This is the first episode to show Meganium's gender differences. In this case, the Meganium that appears in the episode has long antennae, signifying that it is male.
  • The title of the English dub is likely a reference to the song "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", a song by British new wave duo Eurythmics.
  • The English TV guide for YTV uses Japanese names, instead of dub ones: "During Pokémon Orientation Day, six visiting children are split into three teams; Satoshi and Pikachu show their kids Pokémon-battling; Go goes on a Pokemon-catching spree with his duo; Rocket-Dan tries to steal Pikachu, Rabbifuto and Wanpachi."
