Orla and the Poké Ball Smith (Japanese: オリオとモンスターボール職人(しょくにん)HepburnOrio to Monster Ball Shokunintrans. Orla and the Monster Ball Craftsman) is the 4th episode of Pocket Monsters: Terapagos' Brilliance of Pocket Monsters (2023 series), and the 29th episode of Pokémon Horizons: The Series of Pokémon Horizons: The Series.

Synopsis[]

Searching for information about Ancient Poké Balls, the Rising Volt Tacklers visit an artisan Poké Ball factory. The Poké Ball maker, Karna, creates unique designs, but her lack of diligence causes her factory to produce disappointing results. Jumping into action, Orla begins repairing the machinery, and Karna is so impressed that she invites Orla to stay behind and work in the factory. Meanwhile, as Roy practices throwing Poké Balls outside, he accidentally angers a group of Galarian Weezing. The wild Pokémon go on the attack, but Friede challenges Orla to engineer a solution—will it work?[1]

Episode plot[]

On-board the Olivine, Orla told Roy off for throwing Poké-balls inside the ship, but received several urgent calls simultaneously from the rest of the team about various problems, causing her to get stressed. Soon, the Olivine arrived outside a factory building. Roy gawked at the 'awesome' giant Pokéballs in amazement, while Orla looked at the rest of the building in disappointment, having noticed significant problems with several parts. Suddenly, an explosion sound was heard and the shutters opened. Karna appeared.

Inside, Karna found a kettle inside a disorganized looking heap of boxes and antiquities, but more items fell on top of her. Sprigatito jumped off Liko and played with a re-creation of a Hisuian Poké Ball. Karna demonstrated before she greeted the team, and made them some tea with the help of her Magby. She felt sorry for the gang about Tepen's actions, before she explained her love for different Poké Balls. With Friede's encouragement, Roy showed her his Ancient Poké Ball, becoming awestruck and investigating the ball immediately before she passed it back. She showed them a large box full of different Poké Ball creations. Roy became excited and tried them all outside. Soon, another crashing sound was heard, annoying Karna. She mentioned about a machine that can clone many Poké Balls in one go, which isn't working. Orla checked on the machine and fixed it completely. She then ordered Karna to try it out again. After she pressed the button, the custom Poké Ball was created. Karna picked it up, laughing.

After Orla promised her to keep maintaining the machine, she suggested that her Pokémon help out too. Outside, Roy was testing out different custom Pokéballs, having used the rock as his target. He quickly became frustrated with the guide after he botched the Boomerang and Bomb-bomb balls. The noise distracted a Galarian Weezing in the forest. Inside the Olivine, Friede's conversation with Mollie and Murdock soon escalated into an argument about how often they pestered. Back outside the factory, Liko tried out her custom Pokéball. Inside, Karna's Magby helped out with the Pokéball machine's production by breathing fire into the furnace. After Karna pressed the button, multiple Pokéballs were produced from the outlet. Karna thanked Orla for her help, and believed Magby has had fun with this job, while Orla praised Karna for her 'incredible' Poké Ball designs.

Liko overheard the conversation about Karna offering Orla a place at the factory, causing her to bottle her nerves, thinking that Orla's left the Olivine. Meanwhile, Roy continued getting frustrated about the other Pokéballs not working, but decided to keep going. One Pokéball activated a beeping sound, which the Galarian Weezing heard; it encroached Roy and Fuecoco fiercely and attacked them, forcing them to run away. Inside, as more custom Poké Balls are produced, Orla, upon Liko's request, told her her story of how she decided to travel with Friede, until they overheard Roy and Fuecoco shrieking in the distance. As Galarian Weezing continued attacking, Fuecoco became confused by one of its moves.

Sprigatito tried to help, but ended up getting hurt too. Orla drew her Metagross, having resisted the Pokémon's move because of its Steel-typing, and hit it back with Metal Claw, however, this also caused a large horde of Galarian Weezing to ambush them, until Captain Pikachu and his team stopped by to join in, attacking them and therefore being encroached by more angry Galarian Weezing. Friede had an idea after he noticed the factory working properly and demanded Orla to set up the factory at full capacity, so she took her Pokémon and Karna to help her. They, including Magby, worked as hard as possible under Friede's demands, having caused several custom Pokéballs to fall off the conveyor-belt, causing Karna to become nervous and the factory to start shaking. Eventually, the chimney released a large plume of smoke, impressing Friede. The Galarian Weezing lured themselves into the smoke, having consumed and exchanged the smoke for clean air, as mentioned in Liko's Pokédex.

By sunset, Karna thanked Orla for her help again, before the latter made her decision to stay with the Rising Volt Tacklers. Karna gave her another custom-made Pokéball as a gift before the Olivine left the factory. Liko then agreed with Orla that while there are difficult tasks that need to be done, the most enjoyable moments were the opportunities they get to experience new things. As Orla suddenly gets pestered with demands again, she accepted them in a calmer manner.
