Reunion at the Ancient Castle! (Japanese古城(こじょう)での再会(さいかい)HepburnKojou de no Saikaitrans. Reunion at the Old Castle) is the 24th episode of Pocket Monsters: Liko and Roy's Departure of Pocket Monsters (2023 series), and Pokémon Horizons: The Series of Pokémon Horizons: The Series.

Synopsis[]

On board the Brave Olivine, the Rising Volt Tacklers revel at the mysterious Pokémon who transformed from Liko's pendant. Liko's grandma, Diana, might know more about it, so Liko, Roy, and Friede set off to the Wild Area of Galar to find the castle where Diana is staying. Led by Diana's Squawkabilly, the Trainers reach the castle and meet up with Diana, who is surprised to see the pendant Pokémon—it appears to be Terapagos, one of the Pokémon who traveled with the Ancient Adventurer Lucius. Meanwhile, Hamber confronts Amethio about his actions and begins to set his own plan into motion…[1]

Episode plot[]

The episode started with Liko recapping the events involving the Galarian Moltres.

The Rising Volt Tacklers reacted to the introduction of Terapagos. They question Liko about whether she knew about this Pokémon, which she responded that it'd been a good-luck charm her grandmother gave her. Roy's Pokédex came up with an error message as he scanned the Pokémon, becoming optimistic that it may be a special Pokémon. Friede requested Liko and Roy to head out together and find Liko's grandmother, with the other members, including Captain Pikachu, told to look after the ship, which they all agreed. As Terapagos and Hatenna quickly made friends, Sprigatito became uncomfortable, but after some reassurance from her Trainer, she came along as they left the ship.

Meanwhile, Hamber gave feedback to the Explorers about their previous encounter with Moltres, disappointed that they 'came too close' to it and fought the Rising Volt Tacklers, but Amethio surprised him as he uploaded an image of Terapagos to show to him. As soon as Amethio realized the connection, he updated Hamber upon request that it was heading towards Hammerlocke, before terminating the conversation himself. Hamber then updated the boss in Spinel and Sidian's locations. As Sidian appeared with his Garganacl, Hamber requested him and Coral to join him at the Galar region, which they accept.

Back outside, Liko's team arrived at Breezy Hills, the region of Liko's Grandmother and look at the map, before a Yellow plumage Squawkabilly greeting them and requesting that they follow it. They end up at what looked like a dead end, disguised as a Stonjourner. It moved and opened, revealing a hidden door to a tunnel which they follow. Behind the tunnel, Zirc and Onia of the Explorers became frustrated after not being able to find them along the path toward Hammerlocke, before a Morgrem attacked Zirc. Amethio returned to them, admitting that they've found the right area, before demanding that they split up, which they agreed.

Later, Liko's team were outside the Ancient Castle. Squawkabilly and Liko called to open up, which tired Fuecoco and Sprigatito. Arcanine, having recognized a familiar face, swooped down to meet Liko. Eventually, Liko's Grandmother appeared as the front doors opened. They introduced each other inside the castle, with Diana becoming awed by Liko's Sprigatito, but speaks something that enraged Sprigatito causing her to scratch her in return, which impressed her as she had 'got guts'. Diana then gave them a tour of the castle, with Roy becoming excited at all the Pokémon around, along with the amazing art displayed on the walls. Diana then chatted to Liko, apologizing and thanking her for looking after the pendant. Liko suddenly hesitated and became nervous and bashful, looking at Friede, after she recalled what happened with her pendant in the previous episode, until the Terapagos woke up and met Diana for the first time, with Diana already knowing about the Pokémon beforehand via recognition of its face, although she was in disbelief that Terapagos was connected to its pendant, and that the Pokémon was in its dormant form all along. Diana mentioned that this forme of Terapagos looked different to the one mentioned in a book about Lucius' journeys, which had 'an extremely large shell', and was one of the Pokémon who travelled with Lucius, but their conversation was hungry when Roy complained about Fuecoco's stomach rumbling.

At night-time, the Explorers reunited back to the same place. Amethio noticed the Stonjourner 'door' and deployed Ceruledge, using Psycho Cut to scare the Stonjourner away and thus leave the tunnel permanently open for the Explorers to get across. The heroes treated themselves to canned food before the Pokémon head off to sleep, apart from Arcanine who sensed danger. Liko, with Roy, continued their chat with Diana. Diana recalls memories of her first steps to adventuring. She opened a suitcase which contained the pendant in a box and a book about Lucius' journeys, which had an image of Terapagos' Terastal Form. She then became motivated and kept the pendant with her at all times during her adventures with Growlithe, which soon evolved into Arcanine, in the hopes of finding Lucius, and despite giving up, she was still inspired by his journeys up to the present day.

She then recalled a moment a few months ago where Hamber of the Explorers met up with her, with a group of guards appearing behind him, threatening to take the pendant from her. Diana wasn't afraid to take responsibility about the pendant, which was why her daughter Lucca hired Liko to keep hold of it, ending the flashback. The conversation excited Friede and Roy, with the latter showing Diana the Ancient Poké Ball his grandfather gave him, along with the corresponding picture book about the Black Rayquaza. Liko recalled flashbacks about their encounters with Arboliva and Galarian Moltres, trying to conclude their relations with Terapagos. Suddenly, unrest in the castle began as Terapagos alerted everyone about the Explorers infiltrating and discovering the Pendant Pokémon, screaming and becoming paranoid. The Explorers forced a battle with the Rising Volt Tacklers.
