Fiery Galarian Moltres (Japanese: もえあがるガラルファイヤー, Hepburn: Moeagaru Galar Fire, trans. Galarian Fire Blazes Up) is the 23rd episode of Pocket Monsters: Liko and Roy's Departure of Pocket Monsters (2023 series), and Pokémon Horizons: The Series of Pokémon Horizons: The Series.
Synopsis[]
Liko, Roy, and Friede reunite at the Pokémon Center after running from the furious Galarian Moltres inside Galar Mine. Consulting Dot on the phone, their fears are confirmed—this form of the Legendary Pokémon Moltres is known for being overwhelmingly powerful when angered. Roy wonders if it's possible to defeat the Pokémon in battle, but Liko has another idea: to try to understand how it feels. The Trainers attempt to quell Moltres's rage, but it begins to attack, and Arboliva emerges from its Ancient Poké Ball to protect Liko. With Arboliva's help, Moltres calms down, but Liko is surprised when it begins communicating with her pendant…[1]
Episode plot[]
The episode starts with a recap of the previous. Fuecoco, Sprigatito and Captain Pikachu have recovered from the Pokémon Center, to Liko and Roy's delight. Friede, with his Charizard, also arrives through the front door and checks to see if they're OK, reuniting Pikachu with him, but Charizard holds its shoulder, which had been wounded, so Friede requests Nurse Joy to heal him too.
Outside, the Pokémon have a food feast while the Rising Volt Tacklers explain the true power of Moltres. Dot rings up, explaining details about the Pokémon, suspecting that it may be the Galarian Moltres. Friede believe that trainers shouldn't retreat if it has an Ancient Pokéball. As Roy recalls how angry it was, Liko recalls a flashback of Hatenna crying because of Moltres' anger, which then leads them to suggest they should calm the Pokémon down. Their conversation is interrupted when Wattrel gets involved in a fight with Fuecoco over a fruit. As the fruit lands by Sprigatito, she stops Fuecoco, patting it and using Sweet Scent to calm it down, which also calms Wattrel down. They all become excited and have a brainwave after watching their Pokémon.
Later, they return to the entrance of the cave and head inside, with Friede promising to take care of the Explorers. However, the tunnel tracks are impassable due to the wreckage that happened at the end of the previous episode, so Friede suggests they follow the tracks and avoid conflict with Moltres. Roy recalls a flashback of the Moltres tearing down the cave, becoming frightened for a brief moment before putting on a brave face. Liko notices the Moltres staring and roaring down at them.
Friede takes on the Moltres by deploying Charizard, with Cap joining in the fight. Friede suggests to Roy and Liko that they work together as a whole. Roy agrees, and sends Fuecoco to battle, with both trainers commanding a Flamethrower to distract Moltres while Sprigatito uses Sweet Scent in the middle of the cave, but the Moltres prepares an attack, which Friede calls cap to intercept Air Slash, then calls on Liko to seize her chance to command Sprigatito's Leafage, which Moltres blocks. Roy realizes and hails the combination of Sweet Scent followed by Leafage. Liko and Sprigatito perform the trick again, but the Legendary Pokémon deflects it again. Friede suggests putting Sprigatito on Charizard's back to get close enough to it, which they obey. Charizard gets close to it and swoops around it while trying to hit it with Flamethrower. Roy calls Flamethrower which stuns the Moltres and allows Liko the opportunity to use Sprigatito's Sweet Scent and Leafage, but ends in disaster, as all the Pokémon get blown back.
Liko, along with Roy, shows Moltres their Ancient Pokéballs and try to call a truce, but Friede warns that the Legendary Pokémon is setting up Fiery Wrath, forcing everybody to retreat out of the cave, but Fuecoco trips up, forcing Roy to rescue them. Captain Pikachu rushes towards Moltres to intercept its attack with Volt Tackle, getting blasted back. Liko then steps forward, questioning over Moltres' feelings, but it prepares another attack towards Liko, forcing her to hide Sprigatito. Her Ancient Pokéball falls out and glows. Arboliva steps in. Liko realizes she can activate her pendant. The Moltres and Arboliva battle each other for a moment. Soon, the Arboliva uses Grassy Terrain, with Fuecoco recovering and getting pumped up in excitement, and Sprigatito glowing an aura. Liko commands Sprigatito to use the upgraded Leafage, which after two goes still isn't effective enough. Friede realizes that Leafage keeps falling to the ground and suggest Roy's Wattrel can help to keep Leafage airborne. Roy brings Wattrel out and flaps its wings to send Leafage back up in the air, with Charizard helping him out, but soon, Moltres sets up another attack, which Friede commands Double Team on Cap to intercept, followed by another Leafage from Liko's Sprigatito, which fully calms the Moltres down.
After a moment of peace Liko's Pendant glows and transforms into Terapagos. The Pokémon becomes pleased at Moltres' calming as they communicate with one another. Rain and fog are then summoned, confusing Roy and Friede. Lucius is then seen caressing his Legendary Pokémon, in the hopes of finding the location Laqua. The Ancient Pokéball from Moltres comes loose, then enters inside of it, with Arboliva returning too, having given the Rising Volt Tacklers enough trust to join the team. Liko picks up both Pokéballs, and Liko and Roy celebrate with their Pokémon in triumph, but only for a brief moment as Liko realizes her pendant has been mislaid. Hatenna searches for it, then returns to Liko as Terapagos was hiding behind the rocks. Friede hides the Pokémon in his sack.
Meanwhile, A Worker updates Kabu about their Pokémon. The heroes overhear and welcome Kabu; the latter notices Liko's Ancient Pokéball, which contains a Galarian Moltres to his amazement, and promises a Pokémon battle the next time they meet as proof of Liko and Roy's growth, which they agree before they depart out of the cave back to the Olivine, with Liko questioning Friede about when Terapagos will go back to her Pendant.
After the Explorers miss out on the Galarian Moltres, Amethio remains adamant that the Pokémon down in the mines wasn't part of their plans, which frustrates his team-mates Zirc and Onia, but will still attempt to grab Terapagos and Liko's Pendant at some point.
