Synopsis[]
Arriving in Artazon, Liko and Roy search for clues about the black Rayquaza. They want to meet with Gym Leader Brassius, but first they encounter Nemona, a Champion-ranked Trainer with tons of enthusiasm. Brassius, on the other hand, is in a slump, so Nemona helps Liko and Roy gather Sunflora to cheer him up. It turns out Brassius feels inadequate as an artist after seeing the black Rayquaza in real life, but when Roy shares how the Rayquaza inspired him, Brassius cheers up and challenges Roy to a battle. Afterward, Brassius reveals he saw another mysterious Pokémon, too—an Arboliva. What could be its connection to the black Rayquaza?[1]
Episode plot[]
Arriving in Artazon, Liko and Roy admire all of the Grass Pokémon living in the city. In another area, another man praises his shiny Rayquaza sculpture.
As Liko and Roy go around asking people about the shiny Rayquaza, they overhear some Trainers who had just finished a battle. Nemona had just won a battle with her Pawmo, using Spark to defeat the other Trainer's Skiploom. As the two approach the scene, Nemona spots them and believing that their eyes have locked, requests for a battle. The two are left dumbfounded before Liko explains that they were looking for Brassius. Nemona takes them to his atelier and as she talks about him being a Gym Leader, Roy ponders about them before she encourages him to battle the Gym Leaders and go for Champion Rank. Liko then realizes that Nemona is the Champion rank Trainer and is humbled to meet her in person.
Nemona explains that Brassius had been absent from his Gym for a while and that people were trying to get him back by gathering Sunflora in the hopes that he would smile and return to his duties as a Gym Leader. As she finishes that, she realizes that she doesn't know their names, so they introduce themselves and their Pokémon. Just then, they hear someone yelling "not avant-garde" and find Brassius with a shattered pot. Nemona tells him that Liko and Roy came to talk to him and as Liko introduces herself, Brassius is surprised and honored that Alex's daughter is visiting him.
Brassius takes them inside his atelier and serves them drinks while talking about art. His Dolliv is scared and splatters oil on Pawmo before Sprigatito calms it down with its scent, but it gets cheerful anyways and splatters more oil on Pawmo. Roy realizes that they're going off-topic and he asks Brassius about the shiny Rayquaza, only for him to get up and leave while yelling not avant-garde. As the three wonder what went wrong, Brassius walks downstairs and it is revealed that the sculpture was broken. As the three still sit in the living room, Liko notices some shards behind an Appletun sculpture and realizes that Brassius must be in a slump, explaining that her father had gone through it a lot.
Deciding that they need to cheer him up, they grab a large number of Sunflora in the hopes to make him smile again. Meanwhile, Brassius himself decides to go on a walk to get rid of his negative feelings, during which he spots them gathering the Sunflora. His presence is revealed when Dolliv splatters oil on him in happiness. He tries to leave, but the three stop him and ask what went wrong, so he agrees to take him to his workshop. When they arrive, Brassius explains that he wanted his viewers to see a Rayquaza through a Sunflora's view when he actually saw Rayquaza itself while walking around a forest, which travelled at an extreme speed. Brassius then realized that from his art's perspective, he was the Sunflora and entered a slump, losing his ability to create satisfactory art and desire to battle.
Roy tells Brassius that he's impressed with his sculpture and wants to find it even more. Brassius asks him why he's so interested in Rayquaza before he tells him that it was his first step and tries to leave for the forest, but Brassius stops him and requests a battle to see if he has the skill to fight it. Nemona is delighted that Brassius is back to his normal self and they head to the arena, where Brassius brings out his Sudowoodo and Roy uses Fuecoco. Roy believes he has the advantage, mistaking Sudowoodo as a Grass-type and has Fuecoco use Ember which fails to deal much damage due to it actually being a Rock-type. Brassius has Sudowoodo use Rock Throw, which hits Fuecoco as it panics alongside Roy. Nemona explains to him that Sudowoodo is actually a Rock-type Pokémon and Brassius orders another use of Rock Throw.
To avoid the attack, Roy has Fuecoco use Tackle, so Brassius has Sudowoodo use Substitute, which causes Fuecoco to stop and panic again. Roy decides to target the right one, but it was the wrong one. He then decides to target the left one as Brassius keeps having Sudowoodo duplicate itself before ending with Taunt, making Fuecoco mad. Roy asks it to use Tackle, but it starts using Ember instead, much to his confusion. Brassius tells him that if he can't appreciate art, he'll never be able to fight Rayquaza, as watching one's Pokémon is very important. Taking this advice, Roy notes that Fuecoco is brimming with power and encourages it to go mad, allowing it to use Stomping Tantrum, which stumbles and reveals Sudowoodo.
As Roy orders another Stomping Tantrum, Brassius reveals his trump card and Terstallizes Sudowoodo into a Grass-type. Roy realizes he has the advantage again and has Fuecoco use Ember, but Brassius has Sudowoodo use Trailblaze, further empowered by the Terstallization. Sudowoodo dodges all of the Ember shots before punching Fuecoco, causing it to faint and concludes the battle. As the children approach Brassius, Roy and Liko are surprised to see that Terstallization could be used in a Pokémon battle, while Nemona explains how it works. As she finishes up her explanation, Brassius arrives and thanks Roy for the battle and that he had one more secret to share.
Returning to his workshop, Brassius reveals a sculpture of Arboliva, which "ruled" the forest he was in. When he had seen the Rayquaza, he also saw Arboliva shining alongside it, though he did not know why although suspecting it was connected to Rayquaza. Returning to the ship, Liko and Roy share what they learned from Brassius before the two have a private talk. Liko tells Roy that she felt that Arboliva was sad and in pain, though agreeing that there must be a secret hidden in it.
Meanwhile in the forest, a strange being walks around.

- Several references are made to the Pokémon games:
- When Nemona remarks about having locked eyes and asking for a battle, this refers to every game prior to Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet where if the player walked into the line of sight of another Trainer, they would automatically enter a battle. This is also referred to in both games themselves by one of the Trainers near the start of the game.
- People gathering Sunflora references Brassius' Gym Challenge, where players are tasked with finding ten Sunflora around town to complete the challenge.
- Roy mistaking Sudowoodo as a Grass-type when it was actually a Rock-type, along with an episode that revolved around discussing its typing.
