Synopsis[]

Liko, Sprigatito, Roy, and Fuecoco become official members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, but Liko laments that she put everyone in danger because of her pendant. She wants to become stronger so that she can stand tall against her foes. Eager to learn, Liko and Roy ask Friede to train them—but they don't know the first thing about Pokémon battles! Liko and Sprigatito, together with Roy and Fuecoco, face Friede and Captain Pikachu. Slowly but surely, Liko seems to pick up on what Friede and Cap are teaching them, and her newfound skills are put to the test when Friede asks Liko and Roy to battle each other! Will these two manage to uncover what it takes to become true Pokémon Trainers?[1]

Episode plot[]

As the members of the Rising Volt Tacklers perform their daily activities on the ship, Roy asks Liko for a battle as they are both Trainers now. Liko agrees to the request, where Sprigatito and Fuecoco battle it out with Leafage and Ember, though both are quickly tired out and Mollie concludes the battle as a draw. She then gets a call from Professor Friede, where he reveals a Rising Volt Tacklers app on their Rotom Phones and asks them to download it to show that they were one of them. Friede tells them that Dot made the app and Murdock tells them that she's around their age too.

Liko and Roy go to Dot's room and try to talk to her, but are greeted by her Quaxly instead. Roy tries to pet it, but Quaxly slaps his hand away in response. Quaxly then hands Roy a paper, which he reads and finds that it's a drawing of him and Fuecoco fainted. He takes it as her being rude and Liko has an idea, so the two leave with Quaxly following her. On the bridge of the Brave Olivine, Liko asks Friede to help train them, stating that they wanted to become stronger in case the Explorers returned again. Friede, seeing their determination, agrees to her request.

On the deck, Friede brings Captain Pikachu and tells them that if the two managed to land a hit on him, they would win. Fuecoco and Sprigatito attack Pikachu, though their attacks miss. Pikachu uses Mirror Team and begins taunting the pair, though Liko realizes that the real one is moving backwards. After removing the copies, Sprigatito attempts to use Scratch, but Pikachu dodges it. The two Pokémon then tire out as Pikachu shakes his head, concluding the challenge.

Murdock then brings out lunch and Liko realizes that she should practice against Roy first. Sprigatito uses Scratch, which Roy has Fuecoco dodge. The two then realize the meaning of a Pokémon battle, as before they had been ordering moves blindly without looking at their opponent. Fuecoco then uses Ember, but Sprigatito dodges and starts rushing towards Fuecoco, hitting him. Fuecoco faints from the attack, resulting in Liko winning the battle.

Liko and Roy then return to Dot's door, where Quaxly comes out with another piece of paper. The picture shows that Rayquaza is in Paldea, so Roy darts off in excitement while Liko stares back at the door.
