In the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, natural recovery is the ability for Pokémon to regain HP naturally while inside a dungeon or any other location where battles can be fought. Recovery is based on the number of turns.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers[]
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, at the standard rate of natural recovery, a Pokémon's max HP is the amount of HP it regains naturally every 200 turns. For example, if a Pokémon has 50 HP and takes damage in a dungeon, it will regain 50 HP per 200 turns, or 1 HP every four turns. Natural recovery is continuous and applies on every turn in a dungeon. This means that a Pokémon with a max HP value of n regains n/200 after one turn, 2n/200 or n/100 after two turns, 3n/200 after three turns, and so on. The values are interpreted internally as floats; the displayed value is the integer portion of the internal value (for example, if the internal value is 7.25, the game displays "7.")
Limitations[]
A Pokémon that is poisoned or badly poisoned loses natural recovery and takes 2 HP of damage every 20 turns. Healing the poisoned or badly poisoned status also re-enables natural recovery.
In sandstorm or hail, all Pokémon except those of specific types (Rock, Ground, and Steel for sandstorm; Ice for hail), or have Magic Guard, take 3 HP of damage every 10 turns. As a result, any affected Pokémon with less than 60 HP gradually lose HP over time.
Natural recovery applies only to Pokémon on the player's team, including temporary team members, such as clients of escort missions and storyline guests (such as Bidoof at Craggy Coast). Dungeon enemies and bosses do not have natural recovery. Consequently, if the floor's weather is sandstorm or hail, any non-immune enemy Pokémon, including Kecleon, will eventually faint from the weather. In rescue job missions, a non-immune client can also faint from the weather, and the job is no longer completable.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity[]
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, natural recovery is enabled only in "clear" weather. Pokémon cannot regain HP naturally in rain, hail, sandstorm, or any other non-clear weather setting.
