World Ash Ketchum Day (formerly know as National Ash Ketchum Day) is the Anniversary of Ash Ketchum winning his first official Pokémon League in Alola on the day of September 15, 2019. It was invented and first used as a hastag on Twitter, by a Pokémon anime reviewer on YouTube, but received little attention. The day then became official in 2020, where everyone, including Pokémon's official Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube accounts, and Ash's current and former English voice actors Sarah Natochenny and Veronica Taylor begin to acknowledge it on Twitter. The Pokémon franchise officially decide to celebrate "World Ash Ketchum Day" every year on that day, in honor of Ash's greatest achievement in Pokémon the Series.

Ash's first Pokémon League victory aired in Japan in Enter the Champion! of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, where He and his Melmetal,Pikachu and Lycanroc went up against his rival Gladion and his Silvally Zoroark and Lycanroc in the Alola League Finals. During the first half of the battle, it started off with Ash using his Pikachu against Gladdion and his Zoroark, which ended in a draw after a collision of their Z-Moves, Pikachu's Breakneck Blitz and Zoroark's Never-Ending Nightmare. In their second battle both trainers send their Lycanroc as their final Pokémon and begin to fight. After a heated battle from both trainers and their Lycanroc, Gladion and his Lycanroc tries to finish Ash and his Lycanroc, with their powerful Counter. That's when Ash and his Lycanorc were to turn the tables by unleashing their own Counter on the exact same moment, which ends up having Gladion's Lycanroc defeated while Ash's Lycanroc is still left standing. After the battle, Ash is declared as the winner and first ever Pokémon Champion of Alola. At the award ceremony, Professor Kukui (as the Masked Royal) gave Ash his Alola Pokémon League trophy and Ash is celebrating his victory over the crowd.

In 2020, Ash's first Pokémon League victory is official declared as "National Ash Ketchum Day", as an annual celebration of his greatest accomplishment, and began to celebrate every year on the day of his victory on September 15. The Pokémon Company even celebrate themselves by replaying some Ash's final battles during the Pokémon League Conferences he participated in on their YouTube Channel. The channel also stated that the National Ash Ketchum Day would be celebrated on September 15 every year from then on.

In 2021, National Ash Ketchum Day was renamed "World Ash Ketchum Day" to not only celebrate Ash's league victory and milestone, but to also show support and appreciation to all of the voices and fans of Ash Ketchum across the world.
