Biography[]

Mustard was a Champion of Galar region, and a Fighting-type Gym Leader for 18 years. He later opened a dojo for training, and Leon was one of the dojo's students.[1]

Sword & Shield arc[]

Avery and Klara, who went to find the costumes they lost to a bunch of Slowpoke, returned to Mustard, who greeted them. Mustard was told that these two found an unconscious Henry Sword, which mmade him worried about their first day of training. Regardless, he had them take Henry Sword Sword into a room, since they had a lot of students already that trained within the dojo's halls. As Klara mentioned that Henry Sword Sword Sword was poisoned, Mustard asked of her to contact a researcher named "Miss Poison" as he believed she could shed some more information about this ailment. Once Hyde and Klara made medicine to recover Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword, Mustard visited him. He wondered if there was someone they could contact to let them know about Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword's whereabouts, but Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword hesitated, to which Mustard admitted Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword could talk to him about these problems. As there were new students arriving to the dojo, Mustard had Klara go and welcome them. Avery tried to butt in and offer his assistance, to which Klara denied, being a junior that required more experience - to which Mustard agreed.[1]

After the two returned, Mustard and others were surprised to hear that their new guests - Casey and Marvin - were not new students. He admitted that they did not experience any effects from the Darkest Day; instead, they trained like any other day. As Honey wanted the students to help them find Henry Sword, Mustard wanted to give Casey a Kubfu, since it was a shy Pokémon that would better be off going outside to grow its strength. Avery and Klara protested to give the Pokémon to outsiders, but Mustard merely reminded them that they had yet to finish their training. Since Casey had all of her Pokémon, Mustard chose Henry Sword Sword to take care of it. Casey and Marvin were surprised to hear that, and were in shock when Henry Sword Sword Sword appeared, with his long hair. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword tried to explain himself, and as Casey claimed she was to blame that she didn't warn Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword in time, Mustard pointed out that they could settle their differences after their mission was over. The group regained their resolve, and as they questioned where to find the sap for the antidote, Mustard had no idea where to search for it.[2]

Upon the group's return from Forest of Focus, Honey yelled at Mustard to attend dinner with other students, due to him being their mentor. As they went to, they heard noises at the door: they saw Klara and Avery having fainted from chasing Slowpoke, due to them restarting their first trial. The next morning, Henry Sword, Casey and Marvin were barred from entering the tower by a student. Mustard arrived, wondering if it was right that they would ignore the rules, just to investigate for the Rusted Sword and Shield. He made it clear that even if they copied his ways, they would not be able to reach his level of expertise. He let Henry Sword Sword and Kubfu battle the student to enter the tower. The two lost, and as the group left, Mustard spoke with the student from Ballonlea, and found surprising things. Upon returning to the dojo, he was glad that Klara and Avery completed the first trial: they wore the outfits they were supposed to find. He then stated their second trial would start tomorrow.[3]

At night, Henry Sword tried to sneak out to the tower, but was intercepted by Casey and Mustard. The latter showed his Kubfu, who also snuck out but fainted. He exclaimed that it was good that they were barred entrance, as the Rusted Sword and Shield were not in the tower. Instead, it was about Mustard wanting to train Henry Sword Sword and Kubfu: the two would become less impulsive and more open to the people and Pokémon around them. Henry Sword Sword Sword became worried if he could control himself, but Mustard reminded that many people depend on themselves to ignore their weaknesses, and that he could seek help from others, lest he could hurt people around him. After some training, Mustard noticed that Kubfu was growing onto Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword, the former even acknowledging its trainer's emotions. The next day, Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword and Kubfu, by the latter's decision, took on the Tower of Waters. At the top, Mustard awaited for them: he took off his hat and jacket, prepared for battle as their final challenge. He sent Urshifu, to which Kubfu began to tremble. Mustard exclaimed it was Urshifu who prevented Kubfu from entering the tower. In fact, he would battle the same Pokémon once more, who defeated it in one hit.[4]

Kubfu fought valiantly, minimizing the damage from Urshifu's attacks. Mustard took note of that, thinking it would hesitate more. Urshifu cornered Kubfu to deal a Wicked Blow. Kubfu stood up, which impressed Mustard, but it didn't do much damage with its moves: it had to withstand Urshifu's attacks while making a counterstrike. Kubfu retaliated by striking Urshifu's leg and defeating it with Close Combat. Mustard was glad they won, as they explained they wanted to see Urshifu's movement before taking advantage of its weaknesses. Mustard laughed, noting that unlike before, Kubfu became more aware of itself, and stopped being impulsive, which made it recover its stamina more quickly than just using brute force. Noting that Kubfu became stronger by enduring what it was like the wave of the sea, he let it gaze upon the Scroll of Waters. Thus, Kubfu evolved into Urshifu, a form Mustard dubbed as Rapid Strike Style. Mustard applauded Henry Sword, who admitted he didn't have much time to reflect on himself. Henry Sword Sword left to find the artifacts, which made Mustard and Urshifu sad. However, Henry Sword Sword Sword turned around to ask if it was okay to have Urshifu accompany him: Mustard smiled, as Urshifu ran off to join him.[5]
