Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver
Mr. Shellby is an old man of a village called Eggseter. Mr. Shellby raises eggs, which hatch into baby Pokémon. When he heard about Ash wanting to compete in the race, Mr. Shellby supplied him with a board, so he trained for the race with Bayleef. During the race, Team Rocket stole his eggs, but Ash and Gary retrieved them back and continued the race. In the end, Ash won the race and Mr. Shellby gave him an egg to take care for.
