Mossdeep City is a city in Hoenn. Tate and Liza (7th) are the Gym Leaders here who both use Psychic-type Pokémon. In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, the rocket launch center is taken over by Team Magma for rocket fuel later in the storyline. It is also apparent that Steven lives here. The HM Surf is needed to get here, and you will be able to use the HM Dive from beating the Gym Leaders here.

Places of interest[]

Mossdeep Space Center[]

There's a Space Center in the northeast of the city. Due to the sunny weather and stable winds, Mossdeep is a good place to build a Space Center.

After defeating Team Magma here in Emerald, Steven gives the player HM08 (Dive).

Steven's house[]

After defeating the Gym in Ruby, Sapphire, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), Steven will give the player HM08 (Ruby and Sapphire)/HM07 (Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) containing Dive.

After becoming the Champion, Steven leaves a Level 5 (Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald)/Level 1 (Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) Beldum in his house, along with a letter.

Game Corner[]

In Emerald, a Game Corner is located here. Players can interact with FireRed and LeafGreen players and can play two Mini-Games.

Mossdeep Gym[]

Here locates a Psychic-type Gym whose Gym Leaders are Tate and Liza.

Trivia[]

  • Mossdeep City is based on the island of Tanegashima, home to the largest rocket-launching complex in Japan.
  • Mossdeep City's name comes from "moss" (a shade of dark green, as well as a plant) and "deep," referring to the areas around the city where the player can dive. Tokusane City, its Japanese name, comes from 木賊色 (tokusairo, literally "horsetail color," a shade of dark green).
  • In Ruby and Sapphire, there's a house at the left side of the city (which a "Secret Base" finding kid lives in). The child's mother has a Skitty but when the player interacts with it, the dialogue says "DELCATTY" instead of "SKITTY". This error was fixed in Emerald.
  • In Ruby and Sapphire, there is a man with a locked door in his house (the one below the Pokémon Center) who says "Everyone these days has a cable to battle. Nobody will battle with me. Now all I can do is watch." If the player hacks the game and opens the door, they will go to his basement and a replica of the player of the opposing gender is present. If they talk to it, it will say "!!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!!" and their game will freeze. In Emerald, his home in Mossdeep City is replaced with the Mossdeep Game Corner and his home is moved to Sootopolis City.
