Morrison sent Beldum in his battle against Ash's Pikachu. Beldum attacked with the only move it knew, Take Down, though Pikachu dodged and used Quick Attack and Thunderbolt. Beldum endured the attacks and hit Pikachu twice with Take Down. Pikachu clashed with Beldum, using Iron Tail against its Take Down and both Pokémon were defeated. Later on, after Nurse Joy gave Morrison his Beldum back, Morrison came out of the Pokémon Center to sleep on a hammock on a tree. His Beldum carried him up to the hammock; Ash tried to sleep on the tree as well, but nearly fell down. Fortunately, Beldum saved him, whom Morrison lent one of his hammocks.
The next day, as Ash and Morrison were having a lot of challenges to test each other about, Beldum and Pikachu were captured by Team Rocket. Fortunately, Morrison and Ash worked together and bashed Team Rocket onto the cages, freeing Beldum and Pikachu. As Pikachu went on Beldum, the latter attacked Cacnea with Take Down while Pikachu hits Seviper with Iron Tail. The former fired Thunderbolt to attack Team Rocket while Beldum's Take Down blasted them away. Morrison used Beldum in the first round of the Hoenn League tournament, against an Electabuzz. Beldum used Take Down as Electabuzz used Protect, Thunder Punch and Quick Attack moves, only to be knocked down on the ground. After Beldum endured a Thunder attack, it evolved into a Metang just as Electabuzz went to use Thunder Punch.
Metang quickly stopped Electabuzz's Thunder Punch by levitating it with Confusion. Using Take Down, Metang quickly defeated Electabuzz. After a day of hard training with Ash, Morrison laid on grass with his Pokémon, including Metang, to rest a bit. Metang later defeated a Machamp in the next round. Hearing Ash would be his next opponent, Morrison stormed away, having Metang use Take Down on a tree. However, still thinking about having to face Ash, Morrison canceled the attack and ran with Metang away.
During his battle against Ash, after their Gligar and Swellow were defeated, Morrison sent Metang to battle Ash's Glalie as their final Pokémon left. Metang used Take Down, negating Glalie's Headbutt and striking it. Glalie used Ice Beam, to which Metang used Confusion to redirect the attack back at Glalie, before striking it with another Take Down. As Glalie used Ice Beam, Metang repeated its Confusion to redirect the attack. However, Glalie's Icy Wind countered that attack and hit Metang, freezing it a bit. This let Glalie use a Headbutt to inflict damage at Metang, who was unfrozen. Metang retalaited with Meteor Mash, hitting Glalie. As Metang went to repeat its attack, Glalie spinned around using Headbutt. This time, it evaded Meteor Mash, and hit Metang with the attack, defeating it and earning Ash a victory.
