In the past, Mitchell and Murdock used to be friendly rivals and good friends at a dessert shop, looking after their Milcery together. However, after Alcremie evolved from Milcery into her Ruby Form, Mitchell's matcha sweets' sales began to decline. His friendship with Murdock ended after Mitchell angrily rejected one of Alcremie's sweets, causing Murdock to leave with Alcremie and part ways with Mitchell.
After Mitchell engaged in a Pokémon battle in a losing effort to a Trainer's Cufant, he didn't take kindly to Murdock's return to the Battle Café after becoming 'peevish and jealous' at Murdock's success after Milcery evolved into Ruby Form Alcremie during their work shifts, and that Murdock sold more which caused him to slap away Alcremie's treat offer during their clean-down period.
After declining a request to battle Mitchell one-on-one, Liko and Roy soon request Murdock to battle Mitchell once again in a two-on-one battle, which he accepts. During the battle which contained the moves Cotton Spore, Apple Acid, Acid Armor and Decorate being used together, it inspires him to start using combo moves to start baking cakes during battle, that in which Murdock joins in. Liko's Sprigatito then creates the final garnish to complete the cakes, thrilling the crowd. Murdock then apologizes to Mitchell for being overzealous and not registering his feelings, that in which he returns with a cake with missing garnish, asking Murdock's Alcremie to complete it. Afterwards, Murdock, along with everyone else, enjoy the taste of his treat and the two chefs hug each other, rekindling their friendship once again.[1]
