Mime Jr. (Japanese: マネネ Manene) is a Psychic/Fairy-type Baby Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It was first seen in Pokémon Advanced Battle, and is one of the few Sinnoh Pokémon to be seen before all the Generation IV games, shows, and merchandise came out.

Biology

Physiology

Mime Jr. is small in stature and stands 2 feet (0.6m) and weighs 28.7 pounds (13 kg) It has a bright pink body and arms. There is a red circle on its stomach. Its nose resembles a red clown nose. It wears a black crooked hat with a white bulb at the top.

Behavior

Mime Jr. have a knack for imitation, but are not proficient at doing so. It will copy any emotion it senses nearby, and also uses its imitation abilities to confuse foes and escape. The ones residing in Galar appear to look up to Mr. Rime, and often copy their movements like their apprentices.

Evolution

Mime Jr. evolves into Mr. Mime, or Galarian Mr. Mime in Galar, upon leveling up while knowing the move Mimic. Galarian Mr. Mime can evolve further into Mr. Rime at level 42.

    It mimics everyone it sees, but it puts extra effort into copying the graceful dance steps of Mr. Rime as practice.

    It looks for a Mr. Rime that's a good dancer and carefully copies the Mr. Rime's steps like an apprentice.

James' Mime Jr.

James is a trainer of a Mime Jr. in the Pokémon Anime. James got Mime Jr. when he left Chimecho in his mansion. Mime Jr. loves to copy whatever James is doing, and helps in Jessie’s contests.Whenever Team Rocket speaking their motto, it always ends with Mime Jr., saying "Mime, Mime!".

Trivia

  • Mr. Mime, Mime Jr., Mr. Rime, Type: Null, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini are the only Pokémon who have more than one word in their name.
  • It has a unique catch rate of 145.
  • The only time Mime Jr. actually imitates something is when taken to the Copycat's room as the Walking Pokémon in HeartGold and SoulSilver, they interact with it.
  • It has the lowest base HP of both its types.
  • If the player completes a very difficult optional Mission in the first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, it is available as a decorative statue.
  • Mime Jr. is very similar to Bonsly as both are teased Generation IV Baby Pokémon and evolve into their respective evolutions vía learning Mimic and leveling up in the main series. Both also evolve into their respective evolutions via the same conditions in Pokémon GO (walk 15 km, then feed 50 candies).
  • Mime Jr. is one of the ten Pokémon that evolves upon knowing a move.
    • In this case, it needs to know the move Mimic.
  • In the Pokémon Gold and Silver Version beta, a concept similar to Mime Jr. was present in the form of a Normal-type Pokémon named Baririina intended to be a pre-evolution to Mr. Mime. Its appearance was much rounder, having an oval spherical body, thin black arms, small dotted eyes, round red cheeks, a black pointy hat, and being half-white-half-pink, mainly resembling an egg. It didn't make the cut in Generation II, though a similar concept of a Mr. Mime pre-evolution through Mime Jr. was introduced in Generation IV.
  • Mime Jr. is currently the only Pokémon to be part of both a two-stage evolution line and a three-stage evolution line that isn't a Regional form or variant of one. It can be part of a two-stage line by evolving into a Kantonian Mr. Mime or can be part of a three-stage line by evolving into a Galarian Mr. Mime and then into Mr. Rime.
    • Mime Jr. is also the only Pokémon who's order of types change upon gaining a new type upon evolution, albeit this is only present in Galar due to Mime Jr. having Psychic as its primary type and Galarian Mr. Mime having it as its secondary type.

Origin

Mime Jr. is based on a clown, a mime like its evolution and a toddler. It may also be based on a gnome due to it having a pointed hat and it later gaining the Fairy type in Generation VI. It could also be based on a living hand puppet as Mr. Mime has a marionette-like appearance.

Etymology

Mime Jr. comes from "mime" with the abbreviation for "junior", referring to how it is a Baby Pokémon and a pre-evolution to Mr. Mime.
