Metang (Japanese: メタング, HepburnMetangu) (met-TANG[1]) is a Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Metang appears to be a living robot levitating through the air with a disc shaped body. It has two red eyes and a pointy sliver nose. It has two circle shaped arms and there are three silver claws coming out of each one. Metang is always seeking magnetic minerals and is always drawn to Nosepass.

Behavior[]

Their two separate brains do not make them more intelligent than Beldum, but do make them think twice as fast; Metang are very useful for solving complex equations or cracking passwords through brute force, as they can use both of their brains to test possible solutions in half the time. In battle, Metang have can wield a much wider variety of attacks their pre-evolutions, using moves like Metal Claw and Zen Headbutt to take down foes. They will chase down prey and then grasp them tightly with their two claws to bring them down.

Special Abilities[]

It has the ability to Levitate. Despite that, it does not have the ability Levitate. It has the ability Clear Body which prevents any stat reductions.

Metang is composed of two Beldums fused together. It possesses a very strong body that cannot be scratched, even when colliding head on with a jet plane. Metang's psychic abilities are amplified further when its two brains combine, using it to immobilize prey.

Evolution[]

Metang evolves from Beldum starting at level 20, and evolves into Metagross starting at level 45.

Metang is likely based on a UFO with elements of crabs or spiders.

Etymology[]

Metang is a mix of metal, clang, tang (the onomatopoeia for metal being hit), and possibly tank. It could also be an anagram of magnet. It may also include the word étang (French for "pond blue", the color Metang is).
