Lokix (Japanese: エクスレッグ, HepburnEkusureggu) (low-kicks[1]) is a Bug/Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Lokix is an anthropomorphic grasshopper-like Pokémon. It has three pairs of legs; the "hands", its normal legs and a third set at the back which it uses in its Showdown mode. It has yellow eyes with a mostly dark torso with shades of gray. Parts of its hands and legs are also yellow.

Shiny Lokix have parts of their lower bodies, arms and legs a darker shade of gray over normal. The black colors are replaced with a more green-gold appearance.

Behavior[]

When going all out, Lokix use their third set of legs to enter Showdown Mode to beat its enemies in short order. However, it places a huge burden on them so they can't stay in Showdown mode for too long.

    Trivia[]

    • Lokix is the first Bug/Dark-type Pokémon.

    Origin[]

Lokix appears to be based on a grasshopper, particularly those of the locust variety, which are notably larger than other grasshopper varieties and have a swarming phase. Its inability to fly also brings to mind the meadow grasshopper, which, unlike most grasshopper species, cannot fly and traverse solely by hopping. Its Dark typing could be derived from the fact that grasshoppers and locusts are generally considered to be to be nocturnal, and its debut in Paldea may refer to the fact that southern Iberia is the only region in Europe to be affected by locust plagues. It may also be based on pygmy mole crickets due to its coloration and rounded features. The way its third set of legs fold up resembles pocket knives; and its kick-based fighting style may be inspired by tae kwon do.

Lokix is based on the titular characters of the Kamen Rider series (especially Kamen Rider Black and Black RX, while it shiny variant derived from Kamen Rider Zero-One), several of whom have a grasshopper motif and have a belt which is used to transform; usually have a limitation on how long the character can hold the transformation; and all of them have a finishing attack which is known as a Rider Kick. All of these elements are present in the design of Lokix. whose signature move is typically known as the Rider Kick, hence Lokix's focus on kicking attacks.

    Etymology[]

Lokix comes from "locust," a type of grasshopper, and "low kicks."

    Other languages[]

Ekusureggu possibly comes from "extreme," "X," "expert," or "exoskeleton" and "leg."
