Trivia

  • Larvesta evolves later than any Bug-type Pokémon, evolving at level 59. In fact, it evolves later than any other Pokemon except Hydreigon (though Deino evolves into Zweilous nine levels earlier than Larvesta).
  • Despite its Pokédex entries saying it encases itself in a cocoon of fire when it evolves, it does not have an evolved form that is based on a cocoon.
    • Due to this, Larvesta is the only larva-like Pokémon that skips the cocoon stage.
  • Larvesta is the only Bug/Fire type besides its evolution, Volcarona.

Origin

Larvesta is based on a moth caterpillar. It may also draw inspiration from the Japanese kaiju Mothra.

Etymology

Larvesta's name comes from larvae and Vesta, a Roman goddess represented by fire.
