Trivia

  • Larvesta evolves later than any Bug-type Pokémon, evolving at level 59. In fact, the only Pokémon to evolve at a later level are Hydreigon and Dragapult (though Deino evolves into Zweilous and Dreepy evolves into Drakloak nine levels earlier than Larvesta).
    • This means that Larvesta takes the longest to undergo a single stage of evolution via level up.
  • Despite its Pokédex entries saying it encases itself in a cocoon of fire when it evolves, it does not have an evolved form that is based on a cocoon.
    • Due to this, Larvesta is the only larva-like Pokémon that skips the cocoon stage.

Origin

Larvesta may be based on the larvae of the sycamore tussock moth which sport similar white hair with longer orange hair. The positioning of the orange growth may make it based on the Tower of the Sun or the Daimonji. The brown section of its body, as well as being part fire type, make it resemble a cigar.

Etymology

Larvesta comes from larva (the young form of some insects), lava, and Vesta (a Roman goddess represented by fire).

Its Japanese name, Meraruba, comes from メラメラ (meramera, onomatopoeia for something flaring up) and larva.
