Laquium

Laquium in a capsule.

Laquium (ラクリウム, Rakurium?) is a mysterious mineral that is connected to Terapagos and the elusive Laqua.

Description[]

The Laquium takes on the appearance of a pink crystal. When used in a gas form, it can render a Pokémon into an aggressive and violent state that is berserk and increase their power to overwhelm a Terastalized Pokémon with minimal effort. When removed from the Pokémon's body, it becomes unconscious from the aftereffect. Pokémon affected by Laquium has Moves that are pink instead of their usual colors.

In addition, Laquium may possess an alternate effect on humans. As seen with Gibeon, it can result in delayed ageing in physical appearance but can have negative effects on one's health. This can be seen when Gibeon collapses from his wheelchair and had to rely on Laquium for mobility.

History[]

100 years in the past, the original Explorers, which consisted of Lucius, Rystal, and Gibeon, came across a large cluster of Laquium in the midst of a crater. Gibeon was fascinated with the mysterious mineral, but Lucius was concerned with how the surrounding flora was behaving and advised his friends to stay clear from the cluster. Despite the warning, Gibeon decided to exploit the power of the crystals which unfortunately started to have a negative effect on both the flora and the surrounding Pokémon. Sensing the possible danger to the world, Lucius, Rystal and their Pokémon decided to do what they could to put a stop to the Laquium's dangerous impact. Sensing the threat it would bring, Gibeon's Zygarde decided to use its own cells to prevent the crystals from growing out of control, but to no avail. Terapagos decided to utilise the power of the Six Heroes to seal the crystals away, with Lucius being stuck in the barrier. As a result of using a great deal of power, Terapagos was reduced to its dormant state and the Six Heroes were scattered across the world.[1]

Gibeon states in his chamber that he wishes to obtain the Laquium and locate Laqua.[2]

It is eventually revealed that Gibeon has been kept alive by Laquium after his devastating battle with Lucius, which is why his ageing has be decelerated for many years.[3] The same age-deceleration property applies to Lucius, who has been kept alive for over a century due to being housed into a cluster of Laquium.[4] However, over-dependence on Laquium can cause its users to develop reliance and also detrimental effects to their bodies. When Gibeon was defeated by Liko and Amethio in battle, Pagogo and the Six Heroes purified all of the Laquium.[5] But soon after Gibeon and Lucius passed into the afterlife in peace, Spinel seized the opportunity to take control of Laqua and used what's left of the Laquium on five of the Six Heroes, which causes them to go berserk and bring destruction onto the land. Rayquaza, who appears to be ineffective against the Laquium's effects, holds them off while the Rising Volt Tacklers escaped. But their efforts were all but lost when Friede and his Charizard were blown overboard and went missing for over a year. Since the dreadful events in Laqua, it is revealed that Spinel and the Explorers had been secretly spreading Laquium across the world, creating strange phenomenon that started affecting Pokémon whilst pinning blame of the events on the Rising Volt Tacklers.[6]

Roy, now 11 years old, was helping Dot investigate the strange behavior of a rampaging Slaking that have been attacking innocent Pokémon in a forested area. He and his rival, Uruto, battled the Slaking with their Mega Evolved Pokémon, but during the battle they discovered that it was suffering the effects of the Laquium that Spinel released around the world. They first noticed it when Slaking's Hyper Beam attack was a pinkish color rather than the usual yellow.[7]
