Laki has made a career starring in a mystery show called "Alolan Detective Laki" where he and his partner solve mysteries together, and gathering clues, etc. He has witnessed a Ultra Wormhole opening, with a Buzzwole flying out, which must have traumatized him a bit. He has big dreams, and he's not going to let anyone stop him.

Laki appears in Sun & Moon as the star of the fictional show "Alolan Detective Laki", a show where Laki and his Pokémon partner Smeargle solve made-up mysteries, such as robberies. Rotom Pokédex is shown to be a fan of this show, even having a wig resembling Laki's own hair.
