The Lake of Rage is a location introduced in Generation II.

Description

The Lake of Rage is located in the Johto region. The first time the player comes here, there will be a Red Gyarados (which is the first 100% certain shiny encounter of a Pokémon that is available to catch) in the middle of the lake. Because of the Johto Region only appearing in Generations 2 and 4 (in certain games only), these and Generation 5 are the only generations with a definite shiny encounter.
