Biology[]

Physiology[]

Koraidon is a large reptilian Pokémon, being an ancient ancestor of Cyclizar. Most of its body is scarlet in color, with white accents on its cheeks, abdomen, legs, and tail. Its head features a large plume and a pair of long, thin, folded wings, which appear more like antennae when not extended; its rear has a similar, much larger plume. These plumes and antennae are white in color, and blue-purple at the base. It has yellow eyes with dark red pupils, four claws with a web in between the inner two, and blue features on its elbows and shoulders, as well as blue spikes running down its neck. On its chest is a large circular protrusion which resembles a rubber tire. Its texture and black coloration is similar to the base of its tail, and it can inflate or deflate as needed. The scarlet part on it glows when a special attack is used.

Behavior[]

Koraidon is a confident and formidable Pokémon. It is aware of its great strength and rarely feels threatened. Like any wild Pokémon, it is cautious around humans, but can also be curious and playful, and proud in its mannerisms, much like a young lion. It utters burbling and high growling noises that sound like a wildcat's cries. Its power surges under harsh sunlight due to an ancient metallic energy called "orichalc", coursing through its body. In battle, Koraidon will shift into its Gliding Build, allowing it to crash into its targets with explosive force.

Natural abilities[]

Koraidon has the ability to change its form in order to facilitate travel. Sprinting Build Koraidon tucks in its tail and runs on all fours, moving at very fast speeds using its powerful legs. This form also allows Koraidon to climb cliffs. Swimming Build Koraidon can float in the water by turning its throat into a flotation device and using the membrane between its feet to swim. Gliding Build Koraidon can fly by unravelling its twisted tendrils into wings, allowing it to glide and fly through the sky.

In its Apex Build, Koraidon is able to leap up in the air at a staggering height of 65 feet; this feat is done by a powerful leg kick from the ground. Koraidon uses the velocity and momentum from its ascent to drop down and attack unsuspecting foes with a powerful kick and body slam.

Evolution[]

Koraidon cannot evolve.

    Anime[]

A Koraidon made its debut in a short based on Team Rocket's expedition to Paldea, where they tried to catch it. However, it noticed them and roared, causing them to flee before it caught up with them and sent them blasting off.

    Trivia[]

    Origin[]

Koraidon largely resembles a European dragon, dinosaur, or reptilian animal, mostly a Komodo dragon. It also shares traits with motorcycle, as its hair-like tassels resemble handlebars and the black sections of its underbelly and throat resemble bike tires. It also shares some traits with lions, especially in its mannerisms and size.

    Etymology[]

Koraidon may originate from korai (Japanese for "ancient") and don (Spanish for "lord"). The suffix -don, meaning "tooth", is also most commonly given to dinosaur names. It may also incorporate "ride on", as it resembles a motorbike.
