Karpy's voice changing and evolution is a metaphor on child actors going through puberty.
Like Tierno's Raichu, Magi as a Gyarados has her whiskers being identical to a male is an anime inconsistency (even though a female Gyarados' whiskers are white not blue).
In original Japanese dub, Koi-chan can be translated as “Magi”.
- Ironically in English dub, it shares a same nickname as Blind boy's Magikarp.

As a Magikarp, aside having noticeable feminine eyelashes, and both female voice and acting role, her manager mentioned she use to have smaller whiskers as the rest of the female Magikarp, until her evolution progress into Gyarados cause her whisker grew longer
