Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites. I like your style. You understand what's important. Go on—the Champion is waiting.

Karen, Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Karen is a Dark-type Pokémon user and is one of the members of Johto Elite Four.

Appearance[]

Karen is a slim young woman who has silvery-blue eyes and long wavy silvery-blue hair with a centre parting that reaches past her waist with two long bangs that frame her face.

Gold and Silver[]

She wears a short black dress with a sweetheart neckline and black flats.

Crystal[]

Karen's appearance remains the same as it is in Gold and Silver.

HeartGold and Soul Silver[]

She wears a yellow spaghetti strap cropped tank top with a sweetheart neckline edged in black that reveals her flat midriff, and white capri pants with yellow beads. She also wears yellow high heels on her feet. Her tank top has four straps, two on each side that strap over her bare shoulders.

Personality[]

There are two different sides to Karen in the games she is seen. She is a kind-hearted and skilled Pokémon trainer who specializes in dark types. Her policy is there's no such thing as weak or strong Pokémon, people should try to win with their favorite, in her case, her Umbreon.

Etymology[]

The name Karen could be an anagram of the word "darken", excluding the 'D'. It could also incorporate "scare".

Her Japanese name, Karin, could originate from Kali, a Hindu goddess associated with night and destruction. Following the plant-based naming of most characters, it could also literally be 榠樝 (karin, the Japanese name for the Chinese quince).
