Kabu is a character appearing in Pokémon Horizons: The Series, who is the Gym Leader of Motostoke.

Appearance[]

This section, or a part of it, has been transcluded from Kabu; any changes involving it should be made there instead. /

Kabu is a middle-aged man with a muscular body, black eyes, and salt-and-pepper hair. He wears a red polo shirt with a fire symbol, a black and red undershirt with long sleeves, white shorts with red and black details, red socks, and shoes of the same colors. He has muscular calves. He also wears a Dynamax Band and has a white and red towel on around his neck as well a thumbless single glove on his right hand.

Personality[]

Kabu has a tendency to go exercising and jogging on his days off. Like many Gym Leaders, Kabu always wants to have trainers improve their skills and be more motivated in battles. He does not approve of trainers giving up too easy just to let opponents win as well as pointing out how being too nice is disrespecting not just their opponents but to their Pokémon as well.

Biography[]

Kabu originated from the Hoenn region, but moved to Galar at some point in his life to become a Gym Leader. He also has some knowledge about the Shiny Rayquaza.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series[]

He was first seen in the show where he was enjoying himself at the Battle Café after Murdock made amends with his former colleague.[1] While heading back to his Gym, Liko and Roy tagged along hoping to learn more about the Shiny Rayquaza. Kabu complies by having the two do some training together to be ready for the next encounter. In this case, he has the two use their Pokémon's moves to either extinguish Litwick's flame (for Liko) or light Litwick's flame (for Roy). After Roy won his challenge due to Liko folding easily, Kabu then challenged the duo into a Double Battle with his assistant, Wakaba. Despite Roy's Fuecoco learning Flamethrower in the battle, Kabu's Centiskorch easily overpowered Fuecoco. While watching Wakaba's battle against Liko, Liko decided to forfeit her match after feeling concerned about Wakaba's feelings. Kabu noticed this and calls out Liko for her being too much of a people-pleaser. That is, it is okay to be friendly, but Kabu points out to Liko that by putting other people's feelings before herself, she is being disrespectful to her Pokémon and her opponents as well not developing correctly as a trainer. Afterwards, he does inform Liko and Roy that the Shiny Rayquaza is located in the Galar Mines.[2]

Sometime later, Kabu heard the news about the Galar Mine collapsing and went to investigate it. Liko, Roy, and Friede revealed to Kabu that they were able to rescue a Galarian Moltres. Though feeling that Friede, Liko and Roy were hiding something, Kabu decided not to press on and let them leave.[3]
