Johto first partner Pokémon are the starter Pokémon belonging to the Johto region. The Pokémon in question are:
- Chikorita, the Grass type which evolves into Bayleef, then to Meganium.
- Cyndaquil, the Fire type which evolves into Quilava, then to Typhlosion.
- Totodile, the Water type which evolves into Croconaw, then to Feraligatr.

Games[]
Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, Heart Gold and Soul Silver[]
These Starter Pokémon first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver where Professor Elm allows the player character to choose one of them. The rival of the player character takes the starter that is strongest against the player's. The same situation was present in Pokémon Crystal.
In the remakes, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the starters get a redesign. Now the chosen starter, as well as any other Pokémon that is first in the player's party, can follow the player character by walking behind them.
Pokémon Emerald[]
In Pokémon Emerald, after the player has caught all Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex with the exception of Jirachi and Deoxys, Professor Birch will offer one of these Pokémon as a reward.
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire[]
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, after the player first enters the Hall of Fame and meets Zinnia, Professor Birch can be found being chased by a Shroomish on Route 101 and the player will be allowed to choose one of the Johto starters.
Pokémon Sun and Moon[]
The Johto Starters can be found in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon by using a QR code, but they only appear on a specific day and the player has only one hour to catch them.
- Chikorita can only be found Friday.
- Cyndaquil can only be found Sunday.
- Totodile can only be found Monday.

Johto first partner Pokémon in the anime.
Like the Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver games, beginning Trainers who originated in Johto can receive one of the first partner Pokémon in Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile from Professor Elm. However, there have been exceptions of receiving one of them from a school.
Main[]
- Ash caught three of the Johto region starter Pokémon, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. However, unlike the Kanto starters, two out of three evolved as Chikorita and Cyndaquil evolved into Bayleef and Quilava, respectively.
- Dawn hatched a Cyndaquil during her journey in Sinnoh. It later evolved into Quilava.

- Casey started out with Chikorita but it eventually evolved into a Bayleef then into Meganium.
- Khoury started out with Totodile but has since evolved into Croconaw.

- Vincent started with a Chikorita that has since evolved into a Bayleef then into Meganium.
- Silver owns a Chikorita.
- Pike Queen Lucy owns a Cyndaquil.
- Harriet had a Totodile follow her but she let it and various other Pokémon stay with her permanently.
- Chad owns a Cyndaquil.
- Dawn from another world also raised a Cyndaquil into a Quilava.
Manga[]
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Silver stole a Totodile from Professor Elm's lab, which would aid him in battling the Masked Man. Gold snatched Cyndaquil and went to pursue him, but found out that Totodile would rather remain at Silver's side. While continuing to pursue Silver further, Gold's Cyndaquil - Exbo - evolved into a Quilava. Crystal was sent to capture Pokémon for Professor Oak, and Elm's Chikorita followed her to join her. Crystal later discovered the two boys in a critical moment, where all their first partner Pokémon evolved into the final stage.
Trivia[]
- The Johto first partners, along with the Galar first partner Pokémon, stay pure Grass, Fire and Water types throughout their evolutions.
- Cyndaquil is the only Johto Starter that is one of the Hisui first partner Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
