This Carnivine is a grass-type Pokémon owned by James. It is the first Pokémon that he obtained in the Sinnoh region.

It made its debut in Two Degrees of Separation. When James opens his Poké Ball, Carnivine jumps out and bites on James' head. James had originally caught Carnivine in the Great Marsh as a boy when it appeared to be quite injured, as mentioned in a flashback. Carnivine was also used by Jessie for several contests in Sinnoh, while they managed to make it to the final at one point, they lost to Zoey's Glameow. After James gave his Cacnea to another grass type trainer, Carnivine became James' main battle Pokémon. In the next series, when Jessie, James and Meowth were sent to Unova, Carnivine was left at Team Rocket headquarters due to the fact that it's kind was rare in that region. It did make its return in Pokémon: Journeys when they brought back all of their previous Pokémon to battle Ash.

• Carnivine returned a series running gag of James getting his head bitten by a Pokémon out of affection, as Cacnea would prick his neck instead.
• After Jessie's Seviper, Carnivine was the second Team Rocket Pokémon to not have an evolutionary line.
