This Amoonguss is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon owned by James. It is the second Pokémon that he obtained in the Unova region.

James' Amoonguss first appeared along with Jessie's Frillish when Team Rocket attacked Ash and his friends for the first time since "Operation Tempest" and the temporary retreat back to Kanto. It was used to capture Ash's Pikachu and Nanette's Tepig, but was defeated by Ash's Unfezant. James's Amoonguss is often used alongside Jessie's Woobat in a couple of episodes. In the series finale of "Pokémon: Best Wishes!", Amoonguss was given away to Giovanni at Team Rocket's Headquarters. However, near the end of the Journeys series, Giovanni returned Amoonguss to James, alongside Mime Jr., Yamask, Carnivine and Inkay.

- Unlike James' past Grass-type Pokémon, Amoonguss did not show any sign of affection towards James when it gets sent out. It is also the only one of James Pokémon to not have much of a relationship with him.
- Out of the four Unova Pokémon Jessie and James owned (Woobat, Yamask, Frillish and Amoonguss), Amoonguss is the only one that is fully evolved.
