Ilima is a Trial Captain that specializes in Normal type Pokémon. Ilima appears in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
Appearance[]
Ilima is a slender young man with dark skin, medium length light pink hair and light blue eyes, donning a cream colored sweater vest with a brown diamond pattern on it, along with a white undershirt, long white pants, brown and white shoes, blue socks, a blue bag strapped to his pants, and a glove on his left hand. He also wears the Trial Captain medal as a hair accessory. He is usually seen holding a tablet and a notebook. Unlike other Trial Captains, Ilima wears his Z-Ring on his right wrist instead of his left.
Personality[]
Ilima is very outgoing, intelligent and friendly, being known to some as the "Prince of the Trainers' School". Although he usually acts polite and dignified, his demeanor changes completely during Pokémon battles as he becomes much more energetic and fired up. One of his housemaids describes him as "wild for battle".
Etymology[]
The name Ilima comes from ilima, the Hawaiian name for the Sida fallax, a type of flowering plant.
Biography[]
Sun and Moon[]
Ilima is a graduate of the Trainers' School. He first meets the player character at the Trainers' School and expresses an interest in their battle style. The player can later meet him down at the docks, where two Team Skull Grunts confront them and battle with both of them. After beating them, Ilima can be battled against. After winning, he is certain that the player character is ready and asks them to follow him.
During the events of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Ilima is one of the Trial Captains a part of Alola's Island Challenge. His trial takes place in Verdant Cavern on Melemele Island. After obtaining the Normalium Z off the pedestal after beating either Totem Gumshoos or Raticate, he comes in and gives his congratulations. Later in the game, after defeating the Kahuna, the player can go to his house and talk to him, and he'll challenge them to a battle at the Trainer's School. After winning, he offers his thanks for testing his battle style and treats the player to tea and snacks back in his house, giving them an Everstone as a gift.
According to his mother, Ilima studied abroad in Kalos before the games events. He apparently also co-developed the Ride Pager with a friend.

Trivia[]
- Ilima's eyes look similar to those of Valerie. This stirred up a fan theory that Ilima was originally intended to be a fairy type trial captain.
- His mother implied that he used to study at Kalos, by revealing to the player that his favorite snack from his overseas studying in the foreign region is Lumiose Galette.
