Ilex Forest is a location introduced in Generation II.
Description[]
Ilex Forest is a dense forest located in Johto, to the west of Azalea Town and to the south of Goldenrod City.
When the player first visits, Ilex Forest, they can find a man who is looking for his Farfetch'd. He asks the player to find his Farfetch'd around the forest, which the player is required to do. Upon finding the Farfetch'd, it runs away, and the task becomes making Farfetch'd run back to its owner by approaching it. The position in which the player is interacting with it will change the direction the Farfetch'd will run. After chasing it, another man beside the Farfetch'd will join with the same man at the beginning. The man rewards the player with HM01 Cut for their troubles, allowing the player to cut down the tree obstructing the other exit.
In the Generation II games, there is a man who gives the TM Headbutt. In Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version, the man teaches the move to one of the player's Pokémon instead, because Headbutt is not a TM in the Generation IV games.
Ilex Forest has a shrine associated with Celebi and Event Pokémon. Celebi can be battled here in the Japanese version of Pokémon Crystal Version after Kurt has returned the GS Ball to the player. In Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version, if the player character has a Celebi and goes to Ilex Forest, this initiates an even that involves fighting Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket. Additionally, if the player has the Shiny Pichu from the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection event and brings it to the shrine, the Spikey Eared Pichu will appear.
The preview image in Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version shows a Paras in the background during both the day and evening.
