Artwork of the Hoenn Pokédex used for Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version
The Hoenn Pokédex is a regional Pokédex introduced in Generation III. It corresponds to the Hoenn region. It can register up to 202 species of Pokémon, beginning with Treecko, a first partner Pokémon, and ending with Deoxys, a Mythical Pokémon. The Hoenn Pokédex first appears in Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version, returns in Pokémon Emerald Version, and in the remakes Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, where it can now register information on up to 211 species of Pokémon.
Description[]
The Hoenn Pokédex has a few additional features that the Kanto Pokédex and Johto Pokédex did not have. It can display the habitats for any caught Pokémon, as well as a size comparison between the Pokémon and the player. From the Hoenn Pokédex onward, the Pokémon can be sorted by color, height, weight, and type. The Hoenn Pokédex retains the ability to sort Pokémon by name.
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, a Pokémon can also be searched for if its Mega Evolution has been registered.
Original model[]

In the Generation III games, the Hoenn Pokédex has a clamshell design, like previous regional Pokédexes, so it has a flap that can be opened. A white Poké Ball-shaped logo with a light blue button in the center is at the bottom, and it is visible regardless of whether the Hoenn Pokédex is open or closed. When a Hoenn Pokédex is opened, one can see a screen and a green button at the bottom left. There are two longish gray buttons at the lower right of the screen. There is a green lens beneath the flap. There is a notch and a hook outside of the flap that snaps the Pokédex into place and closes it tightly.
The model resembles a PDA more than the Game Boy Advance, the system on which Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version and Pokémon Emerald Version had been released; this is unlike the Kanto Pokédex and Johto Pokédex, which have features similar to the Game Boy and Game Boy Color.
Redesigned model[]
The redesigned model in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire was redesigned drastically to heavily resemble a red Game Boy Advance, to the point of even retaining the same shape, button layout (including the shoulder buttons), and LED power indicator. There is a screen in the center that is surrounded by a black frame, similarly to said system. The left side does not have a directional pad, like the Game Boy Advance, but retains the same Poké Ball-shaped logo as the original model. Two smaller buttons meant to correspond to the Start and Select buttons are positioned at the lower right, each within a designated space. The buttons on the right side are meant to correspond to the A and B buttons of a Game Boy Advance, except the Hoenn Pokédex colors them light green.
Appearances[]
Pokémon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire[]
In Pokémon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire, the Hoenn Pokédex is referred to as simply the Poké Dex. The first 200 Pokémon are numbered identically as in Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version (and later Pokémon Emerald Version, which released afterward). While Jirachi does appear, it is not included within the Poké Dex, and Deoxys does not appear at all. There are only four Pokémon in the game that are not part of the Poké Dex, including Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile (the first partner Pokémon of the Johto region) and Aerodactyl.
