Biography[]
Sword & Shield arc[]
Henry encountered Marvin running away from a huge Pangoro, and had his Sirfetch'd, Lancelot, rescue him from falling down a cliff. Marvin was grateful for the rescue, but out of the shock from encountering an enormous Pangoro, he fainted from shock. Later, he was sharpening a Sirfetch'd leek. Casey explained to Marvin that Henry was sharpening Pokémon's tools in battle, named "Gears", a term she thought Henry had made up. Henry denied that, reminding that such tools become inefficient after some use. When Marvin thanked him, Casey thought he could learn more about the Dynamax, to which Magnolia suggested using VR goggles. Casey gave Marvin the goggles to see the giant Pangoro again. They suggested a battle with it, with Henry lending his Lancelot to Marvin, for the latter did not have any Pokémon at the moment. As he unequipped the mask, Marvin asked who these people were, to which Henry, Casey and Magnolia introduced themselves.[1]
Having met Marvin, Casey put the latter on the VR goggles. Professor Magnolia activated the simulation, so Henry and Casey could show Marvin how to battle against a giant Dynamax Pangoro. Marvin was a bit afraid of Pangoro, for he never had any battle before, to which Casey and Henry reminded him the basics, which would do well for the battle. As Pangoro went to attack, Marvin was in shock and was unable to retaliate. Casey claimed she even made the attacks inflict electricity to feel the pain, upsetting Marvin even more. However, the latter did tell Henry he wanted to catch it to go on a Pokémon journey to challenge Gyms. Casey approved of that, reminding that Galar region did have many Gyms for him to confront. The Pangoro went to attack again, to which Henry and Casey had Grookey and Scorbunny launch Ember and Leafage. Henry pointed out that Pangoro switched from offense to defense, some time that they could use for their advantage, along with type compatibility.
Marvin understood that Sirfetch'd could use Meteor Assault, which was a super-effective move on Pangoro. Henry confirmed that, but reminded this Dynamax Pangoro was tougher than usual. Sirfetch'd went to attack, taking the moment to unleash Meteor Assault, defeating Dynamax Pangoro, which faded into data. Henry and Casey congratulated Marvin, who was impressed by how much he has experienced. They invited Marvin to join them, but he replied he needed to ask his parents first. Magnolia approved of that, and called Marvin's parents, who let him accompany them. Henry and Casey reminded that they were also taking part in the Gym Challenge, but had to be endorsed first. As the group had dinner, they watched a show where the Champion, Leon, was supposed to appear. However, the announcer explained Leon could not made it due to his train getting stuck. The group looked outside, seeing that Leon was actually herding Wooloo to let the train pass, but failed.
To help Leon, Henry went in to the pasture, finding a lone Obstagoon. Sirfetch'd managed to circle around Obstagoon and intimidate it, causing it to flee. With the Wooloo secured, Leon was grateful for their help. The group was satisfied, and felt that Henry and Casey could get Leon's endorsement after this.[2] Casey was analyzing the video from Leon rescuing the Wooloo, and screamed "14 seconds", which woke Marvin up. When the latter questioned them about this, Casey explained that they wanted to know more about Leon's battle tactics, for they could challenge him someday. Henry wished they had filmed him when he was chasing Obstagoon, but instead the two focused on reviewing the performances of their own Pokémon. Casey and Henry commented that they did well, especially when Henry trimmed Lancelot's blade.
Suddenly, the motorhome stopped, as a tire was pierced. They went outside to see what happened, even though they did ask of Marvin to stay inside, with wild Pokémon roaming. Sobble tried to go out as well, but without a trainer, it had to remain inside or it could even wander off. Sobble began to cry, but everyone was crying as well, due to Sobble leaking a substance that caused everyone to cry. In that moment, a group of Drednaw appeared: Casey believed they wandered into their territory, making them pierce their tires as a result. The Drednaw attacked, but missed, to which Casey attempted to remember their typing but failed. To hold them off, Casey and Henry sent out Grookey and Scorbunny to combat them. In order to learn more, they had Marvin take the smartphones to them. Marvin did so, but doubted that had any effect.
Much to his amazement, the smartphones had faces on them and levitated: the devices were controlled by Rotom, and provided information about Drednaw. Casey noticed that her Scorbunny had stopped one Drednaw to fainting, but before it did so, Drednaw bit its pouch that made it faint instantly. Another Drednaw went after Sobble, who went invisible, and its tears made Drednaw confused enough to attack another Drednaw. Henry had Grookey attack Drednaw, taking the moment to defeat it. After the battle was over, Sobble appeared next to Marvin, and the group let him keep it as his first Pokémon.[3] The group was riding as they wanted to decide nicknames for Pokémon. Henry named Sirfetch'd as Lancyn, and decided to name Grookey as Twiggy, whereas Marvin's Sobble's nickname was Sniffler.
As the motorhome stopped, Casey informed Marvin that they were at the Wild Area, where many wild Pokémon lived. Magnolia let Casey inspect the Rolling Hills, as they believed there to be a Power Spot, where Pokémon can Dynamax - which was the basis of their research. Finding a hole where light was emitted, Magnolia confirmed that to be a Power Spot, and reminded they could catch the Dynamaxed Pokémon if they won the battle, with their Rotom Phone being able to tell which Pokémon located inside it. Casey's phone rang, and she went outside to see a Pelipper delivering a package. She and Henry opened it, finding their outfits for Gym Challenge.
As the two admired these outfits, they were nearly torn by a Linoone. Two figures appeared, who wanted to sabotage their efforts to take part in the challenge, knowing well they were travelling in Professor Magnolia's motorhome to do research. The two people, who claimed to be part of Team Yell, had Linoone and Thievul attack Henry and Casey, for the glory of "Lady" Marnie, and showed banners of her. Casey became angry, thinking this Marnie ordered this dishonorable attack, but the grunts claimed that she would never ask them to do this bad thing. They wanted Marnie to win, and had Thievul and Linoone continue attacking. While Scorbunny was fighting them, Twiggy snuck behind the grunts and struck them. The grunts were angry that they were attacked instead of their Pokémon, and in this distraction, Henry and Casey put a pair of bands on and tackled the grunts into a hole - the Power Spot.
Below, the group faced a Dynamaxed Gurdurr. The grunts were furious, since the only way out was to battle Gurdurr, but Henry was counting on that. As Gurdurr defeated Linoone with one swing, Thievul used Fire Fang on Gurdurr, but the latter was unaffected. Henry was thinking of a strategy, so Thievul used another Fire Fang and Scorbunny fired Ember on Gurdurr's beam. The latter made another swing, defeating Thievul as well. Scorbunny repeated its attack, causing Gurdurr's beam to become too hot to hold, which led Sirfetch'd use a Brave Bird to topple it down. Henry used his band to enlargen his Poké Ball and catch Gurdurr. The grunts were displeased with this outcome, but Casey cheered on Henry, who nicknamed Gurdurr he wanted so much as "Steeler". After Henry and Casey returned from their encounter with a Dynamaxed Gurdurr and two Team Yell grunts, Magnolia was not pleased they rushed into such matters, though they did use the Dynamax Bands
Marvin wondered what a Dynamax Band was, to which Henry and Casey decided to tell their story, as Magnolia believed he had the right to know, for he was a part of their group.[4]
