For the variant appearing in the games, see Gordie.

Gordie is a character appearing in the "Sword & Shield Chapter" of Pokémon Adventures.

Appearance[]

This section, or a part of it, has been transcluded from Gordie; any changes involving it should be made there instead. /

Gordie is a tall and stocky young man with fair skin, beige hair with yellow highlights, and blue eyes. He wears a stylish outfit that consists of blue and black sunglasses, a brown and black jacket, and a white colored blazer with the Rock-type symbol on it. He also wears gray and white shorts with a multitude of symbols and his Gym number on them, along with a contraption with which he carries his Poké Balls. Finally, he wears gray and blue shoes and has a gold necklace with a blue gemstone inset around his neck.

Personality[]

Gordie acts tough, and to take on powerful Trainers. This, however, causes him to be overconfident at times, and has little care about risking his health in cold environment. He also respects others' determination in battle.

Etymology[]

While Gordie is named after a plant (said plant being a gourd) like most of the characters from Sword and Shield, his name may also come from "ore" (a mineral mined in order to extract metals or other desired materials from it) and geode (a rock containing a hollow space lined with crystals). Less flatteringly, his name may also come from gordo, which means "fat" in Spanish. Makuwa, his Japanese name, may come from マグマ (maguma, magma, molten rock) or the minerals mackinawite, macaulayite, or macdonaldite.

Biography[]

Melony had a troublesome relationship with her son, Gordie.[1] She hopesd she could offer him some help to fix their relationship.[2]

Sword & Shield arc[]

As his mother, Melony, left Circhester, Gordie prepared himself to take on the new challengers. The Gym assistants felt that things would've been easier if Gordie was in good terms with his mother, instead of waiting for her to leave.[1]

Hearing that Sou came to Circhester, Gordie sought him out in a snowy blizzard to battle him. He startled Marvin by coming out from a patch of snow, and introduced himself. Gordie wanted to have an unofficial match with Sou, since he could battle the other Gym Leader of Circhester. Sou was unable to accept his challenge, for he was repairing the cane Melony gave him. He also reminded that he had the option to choose which Gym Leader to battle against, but Gordie pointed out that he would like to battle against the Pokémon he repaired the gear for. Sou noted he was right, and wanted to take Gordie's challenge. Gordie was pleased, for he could battle a Trainer being endorsed by the Champion, and wanted to wait to battle him after he would repair the gear.

Gordie started to sneeze: Sou realized he could catch a cold if he would wait any longer, so he had Marvin battle Gordie instead. Marvin disagreed with the idea, but Sou whispered they could satisfy Gordie's thirst for battle. Gordie was a bit annoyed by this (since he heard them), but accepted the match, as did Marvin, and the two sent Stonjourner to battle Tearie. Tearie had difficulty battling, since its water attacks froze in the cold environment, while Stonjourner slammed its rocks, nearly striking Tearie. Marvin then had Tearie lay out bubbles, which caused Stonjourner to slip and fall down. Gordie had Stonjourner use Rock Slide to maintain its balance and continue the battle. Just as Gordie went to announce another attack, Schilly and Raboot arrived, mistaking Gordie as an enemy.

Raboot kicked a berry to hit Stonjourner, then Schilly borrowed Sou's Stickyn and Marvie's Tearie. Raboot melted a bit of snow, while Stickyn punched holes in the ground for Tearie to use Water Gun on the holes, splashing Stonjourner and making it fall down. Marvin stopped Schilly, and the latter was told about Gordie. Schilly deeply apologized, but Gordie didn't take offense, since he enjoyed battling her, who was also endorsed by the Champion, and was moved by her determination. At the moment, Sou noticed the cane he was to fix was taken by Eiscue, so he dashed away to retrieve it. Marvin then noticed Gordie sneezing a lot and fainting, due to having a fever. As Schilly blanked out, Marvin pulled Gordie in his tent, and went to call Professor Magnolia.[3] Gordie, who fell ill, was taken back to Circhester, where his siblings took care of him.[2]

Gordie answered to the Gym Leaders' call about Chairman Rose's questionable activities. He met up with Bea, Gordie and Melony at Rose Tower, and were joined by Piers, Hop, Marnie, Henry Sword and Casey. Piers gasped, seeing Gordie and Melony reunited, to which Gordie and Melony became embarrassed. After being joined by Kabu and Milo, the group heard a battle raging from the tower. Inside, they found Bede and Opal confronting Oleana, who refused to move, as Chairman Rose was not present. Oleana, seeing that they would not leave, sent her Pokémon to stop them, and in that moment, the group came in as well, sending their Pokémon to battle. With Chairman Rose unleashing the Darkest Day in Hammerlocke, the Pokémon of Wyndon were Dynamaxed, and this caused people to panic. He became shocked to hear that Chairman Rose could have been responsible for unleashing the Darkest Day. In order to go to Hammerlocke, the group was picked up by Professor Magnolia, who rode away in her motorhome.[4]

Gordie was in the motorhome heading to Hammerlocke, which, due to a collapsed bridge, took a bumpy ride on the railway. On the way, he heard that some of the Trainers required assistance in battling Dynamaxed Pokémon. He decided to go, in contrast to his mother, who decided to confront Rose, making them blush. Thus, Gordie remained behind in the motorhome, as Magnolia drove them away.[5] Having received word that Macro Cosmos' employees were sent to deal with Dynamaxed Pokémon in Galar cities, Gordie decided with the rest of the Gym Leaders to return to Hammerlocke to provide support. The motorhome rode away, but stopped when a blast struck a hole in the road.[6]
