Golisopod (Japanese: グソクムシャ, Hepburn: Gusokumusha) (go-LIE-suh-pod[1]) is a bug/water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII.
Biology[]
Physiology[]
Golisopod is a blue and purple bipedal, arthropod-like Pokémon. It has a domed carapace on its head and back, six arms (two large and clawed, and the other four are tiny and vestigial) and a section of exoskeleton on its lower body resembling a sumo wrestler's loincloth.
Behavior[]
Golisopod are stronger than Wimpod and will do anything to win, taking advantage of any openings they can find. Like its pre-evolution, Golisopod are still somewhat cowardly Pokémon despite being stronger, as they are known to flee when the situation becomes rough for them.
In the Galar region, Golispod frequently clash with Grapploct, with the loser of the battle being eaten by the winner.
Natural abilities[]
Golisopod has the ability Emergency Exit, a variant of Wimp Out that activates upon reaching 50% or less health. In the wild, the Pokémon immediately flees, ending the battle. In battles, Golisopod will withdraw, causing another Pokémon to take their place.
Evolution[]
Golisopod evolves from Wimpod at level 30.

- Sun
With a flashing slash of its giant sharp claws, it cleaves seawater—or even air—right in two.
- Moon
It battles skillfully with its six arms, but spends most of its time peacefully meditating in caves deep beneath the sea.
- Ultra Sun
The shell covering its body is as hard as diamond. This Pokémon will do anything it takes to win.
- Ultra Moon
Its claws, which it can extend and retract at will, are its greatest weapons. Golisopod is sometimes accompanied by Wimpod.
- Sword
It will do anything to win, taking advantage of every opening and finishing opponents off with the small claws on its front legs.
- Shield
They live in sunken ships or in holes in the seabed. When Golisopod and Grapploct battle, the loser becomes the winner's meal.

Trivia[]
- Golisopod is considered the Alolan counterpart to Gyarados:
- Despite its stronger, more threatening form it is implied that Golisopod is equally as cowardly as Wimpod: its ability Emergency Exit is practically the same as Wimp Out and its signature move First Impression involves it making a quick cheap shot at its opponent.
- Contrary to what its Pokédex entry in Pokémon Sun says, Golisopod is unable to learn the move Air Slash.
Origin[]
Golisopod resembles a giant isopod or trilobite, with elements of sumo wrestlers and a set of samurai armor.
Its appearance, fighting style (as shown in the anime: spinning quickly, blocking, using its multiple arms and claws as swords), and cowardly personality (relying on cheap shots often, toying with weaker opponents, and running from opponents who are stronger than it expected) are partially based on General Grievous from the Star Wars franchise. Even its performance in the Alola league (anime only) show it to be a bulky strong lackey who will cowardly run and let its allies get destroyed angering Guzma (similarly to Grievous' relationship with Count Dooku).
Considering its water and sea based origins, Golisopod's sudden and drastic evolution from its origins as the weak Wimpod hearkens to cultural aspects of beach culture, specifically to 1950s Americana of showcasing undertoned and wiry males and transforming them into musclemen by muscle building regiments to impress with their healthy physiques and fight off bullies at the beach.
Etymology[]
Golisopod may be a combination of Goliath and isopod.
