Magmar made its debut when it was sent out to battle Ash at the Johto Legaue Silver Conference. Ash's Heracross evaded its Flamethrower and tossed it up with Fury Swipes. Magmar retaliated with Fire Blast, which wounded Heracross. However, the latter endured the attack, to which Magmar fainted, after suffering a devastating hit from its Megahorn attack.[1] In order to mark its defeat, Magmar's face was shadowed on the screenboard for the rest of the battle.[2]
