I support this idea. This will make more people to come towards our wiki and not towards Bulbapedia. But this is a gigantic project, so we need to promote some people to rollback or admin, some active people.--[[User:Utkar22|Utkar22]] ([[User talk:Utkar22|talk]]) 04:14, March 15, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, it's something really crazy and big. But if we want to do it, we can do it. I'll do whatever is needed for it, but yeah, we would REALLY need help from someone outside this Wiki to help. Revision as of 04:24, 16 March 2015

Hi Pokémon Wiki? Have you ever needed to add a picture of a Pokémon and want the original artwork, but you have to go look on the Pokémon's page for its number? Maybe you have, but it hasn't been that annoying. Me, for example, encounter this problem a lot, and let me tell you something, it's really tiring. Why if you have to use the icon of the Pokémon you need to know its number and not its name?

That's why this forum's for. I propose to change ALL the pictures of the artworks of Pokémon for ones with a better name.

Example: 025Pikachu.pngPikachu.png.

There are pictures of Pokémon that are only the name, but shouldn't be there. Then, you would only need to type the Pokémon's name and then you have your artwork without having to know its Pokédex number.

There is also another convenience about this. We have artworks of good quality. If you type in Google Images (for example) Pokémon Dialga artwork, our files don't appear. Without the numbers, they may appear in those searchers and that brings more and more people to check the Wiki out.

Now, there are some Pokémon that have more artworks than just one. These are some examples:

  • Pokémon that have different forms: 479DRotom.pngRotom Frost.png
  • Pokémon that Mega Evolve: 359MAbsol.pngMega Absol.png
  • Pokémon with Primal Reversion: 383PGroudon.pngPrimal Groudon.png

Everything seems perfect, however, this change I'm suggesting is not only for the artworks. It's also for the:

  • icons: 538.pngThroh icon.png
    • 585D.pngDeerling Winter icon.png
    • 460M.pngMega Abomasnow icon.png
    • 382P.pngPrimal Kyogre icon.png
  • footprints: F217.pngUrsaring footprint.png
    • F645A.pngLandorus Therian Forme footprint.png
  • cries: 433.oggChingling cry.ogg
    • 492B.oggShaymin Sky Forme cry.ogg
    • 094M.oggMega Gengar cry.ogg
  • Dream World artworks: 096Drowzee Dream.pngDrowzee (dream world).png
    • 386CDeoxys Dream.pngDeoxys Defense Forme (dream world).png
    • 208MSteelix Dream.pngMega Steelix (dream world).png

And such, but removing the numbers from each file. I know it's a very big and radical change, but if most of you vote for the change to be done, it will be done with the use of bots to change each file in each page of the Wiki.

Give me your opinions, I'd really like to hear them. 384Adrián Perry GZ384M 00:16, March 14, 2015 (UTC)a

I would like to support this, but it sounds like a gigantic project, which we need a lot of contributors and edits. Well, maybe this would work if more users were available. Energy X 10:25, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

Big support from me; it is a huge task but it will make working with images a lot easier in the long run. We need to make editing as simple as possible to help hook people and keep them around. Plus getting our images on search engines could potentially increase activity. What are the bot limitations? Which work would have to be done manually? Jazzcookie (talk) 10:49, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

I would like to support it aswell but it seems to be a huge project. I believe most of the work will be done by the admins because they are able to rename every file, isn't it?--Lordranged7 (talk) 12:41, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

Breaking it down into more manageable chunks makes it look a little less daunting. A little. :p Spread over a month, the artwork (based on 800ish files) would require 27 moves a day. ~14 for both Nectaria and Energy X. It could be longer term; god knows things like this can get pretty boring. Doing one set a month would mean five months of the same thing. :s

To lessen the workload there are a couple of options: a) Temporarily promote active rollbacks to help out; the condition being that they only use the rights to move the files. b) Reach out to trusted admins of other wikis and enlist their help under the same condition.

The only other option is to wait until the other admins are more active or a couple more people are promoted to admin. Jazzcookie (talk) 22:29, March 14, 2015 (UTC)
