Forums: Index Watercooler Should Gallery Subpages Be Added?

After further observation, I noticed how unformatted the gallery boxes we use now are. When there are multiple boxes, they pile up on one another like so. I don't like how compressed the images looks in the box. So I thought we could create gallery subpages for moves. This is a common thing used on wikis anyway. This way we can list all of the Pokémon shown using the move, instead of just six and have plenty of space. We would name the subpages as (Move)/(Anime or Manga) Gallery. A more direct example would be Energy Ball/Anime Gallery. The only gallery I think that should kept on the move page is the game gallery. For the anime and manga gallery, there would be a subpage listed in a "See also" section on the move page in question.

Neutral

Neutral Neutral: I have to go with being neutral with this one. I think it will be a good idea to showcase the moves but at the other hand, galleries are going to have too many images of moves that are used many times in the anime (like Hyper Beam for example). That was why the galleries were removed in the first place from the pages some time ago. So I am not sure to either support or oppose this.--Lordranged7 (talk) 18:28, August 24, 2016 (UTC)
Neutral Neutral: Well, sure. I don't see why not. It's much better this way.--Jokeman20 (talk) 19:54, August 24, 2016 (UTC)

Oppose

Oppose Oppose: We never have done this. It is just a lazy way to add tons of images onto one article. Besides, there are times where there is just one image of a move used in the anime and times when it is used too much. And then there are also the times when the scene used is just copy-pasted for Pokémon belonging to other characters. You also need to know about the time to load articles. Slaying and his friend did change infoboxes, one of the reasons to reduce loading page time. We already scrapped out such galleries before and used those templates, to show how the image changed from one generation to the other. As said before, it is not much of a big deal; if it must, the images of main characters' (plus some related ones, like anime/manga counterparts) Pokémon can be added in a different gallery. And even if it is placed into the new page, how will it affect the reader? I do not think such a drastic change is welcome. And once this starts, I fear more pages will be affected by this "transition". In a few words, this gallery business is highly unprofessional. Energy X 22:20, August 24, 2016 (UTC)

Comment

Comment Comment: @Lord Aside from the games, the anime and manga images of a move will have their own galleriy page. They'll just be linked to the actual move page in question. And it's not all moves that would have tons of images. My Energy Ball/Anime Gallery has 25 images and the loading time isn't a problem. So I don't think loading time won't start to beecome a bit slower until the gallery reaches like 75 images, maybe. --Rai 水 (talk) 18:46, August 24, 2016 (UTC)
Comment Comment: @X How on earth is my proposal lazy? And how is it unprofessional? If you don't like it, fine, but don't make up lies like that. I am quite aware that Slay and Mono Bunny changed infoboxes to make the loading time faster on pages. Like I said, my example gallery has 25 images in it and it loads perfectly fine. Pages with a lot of stuff on it will be slower then those that aren't. We have pages like that already. There is absolutely nothing wrong with creating a gallery page for the move used in the anime and manga, when we are not only showing how it looks in different serieses, but the ways it is used (some Pokémon use it differently) and we are informed of what Pokémon in the anime and manga have used it. We are getting no downside to this. We are getting valuable information. You used the Hyper Beam example, well yes it is used quite a bit, but certainly not enough to make a page so slow. You guys originally placed all of the images of all of times Hyper Beam was used in the same page as the main article, and that was your mistake there. If a bunch of images was a problem, then categories like Generation I Pokémon that now include images of all the Pokémon introduced in it would not be used. That's 151 images and it's about a 2-4 second load time just for completion, and that's including other stuff on that page. These move galleries won't even have 100 images, never mind 151, even for as many Pokémon that have used the move in question in the anime and manga. So load time won't be a problem for image only pages. --Rai 水 (talk) 01:17, August 25, 2016 (UTC)
