New Pokémon Snap is a spin-off video game developed by Bandai Namco. It was announced on June 17, 2020[1] and was released on April 30, 2021. It is a sequel to the original Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo 64.
The game also received a free content update containing new areas and 20 new Pokémon to snap on August 3, 2021.
Story[]
The setting takes place in the Lental region. The player has been hired by the region's professor, Professor Mirror, to photograph the many different Pokémon found around the region.
Trivia[]
- According to the game's developer Haruki Suzaki, Bandai Namco was chosen to develop New Pokémon Snap because of their work on Pokkén Tournament and aspects of the game such as the environments.
- Around 33 seconds into the reveal trailer for the game, a Shroomish can be spotted on one of the courses. However, Shroomish does not appear in the final game.
- Shroomish later appeared in the Side Path stage, part of a free content update that was implemented into the game after New Pokémon Snap's initial release. It is likely the area featured in the original trailer was intended to be in the base game but was moved to be downloadable content.
- A Mission called "A Seasonal Gathering" may be based on the episode The Four Seasons of Sawsbuck! as the episode has a similar premise of photographing the four seasonal Sawsbuck all together in a secret lake area.
