Exeggutor (Japanese: ナッシー, HepburnNasshii) (ecks-EGG-u-tore[1]) is a Grass/Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, and a Grass/Dragon-type introduced in Generation VII.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Exeggutor is known as the Coconut Pokémon. This Pokémon looks like a walking palm tree with three yellow coconut-like heads. Each of its head shows a different expression and has its own will. It has two stubby legs, and its feet have two white claws and yellow soles. If a head grows too big, it falls off and becomes an Exeggcute. They use Telepathy to discuss their plan before coming to a joint decision.

Alolan Exeggutor is much taller and slim than its Kantonian counterpart. It has a tail with the end being a coconut with an additional face. This face looks overall different from the other three faces because it is green and has smaller eyes and a closed mouth.

Behavior[]

Kantonian Exeggutor live in herds and has been given the reputation as the "Walking Jungle" due to them migrating sometimes. Tales have been told that one of Exeggutor's heads would fall off and form an Exeggcute, when this happens it will emit a telepathic call almost immediately to attract five other Exeggcute and become a group. The three heads of an Exeggutor always think independently and rarely bicker with one another. Exeggutor having a stout body is the result of cooler climates. Their three heads each speak their minds all at once. As a result, Exeggutor can be very noisy at times. They use telepathy to plan amongst themselves before acting. They are very friendly, both between their heads and to others, so it is rare for them to ever argue. When they do, however, Exeggutor will become confused, especially if they try to move in different directions at once. Though not aggressive, Exeggutor are capable of defending themselves when attacked with a variety of moves, including techniques such as Egg Bomb and the rare Barrage. Focusing on the same target with all three ends results in a triple-strength attack. They are rarely threatened, though, as their herds give them strength in numbers; few ever want to anger entire “forests.” Exeggutor become quite sluggish when deprived of sunlight, and forests of them will quiet down on cloudy days.

Alolan Exeggutor thrives well in the Alola region. The locals there often take pride in Exeggutor, stating that it was originally meant to look like the taller appearance it bears in Alola. Exeggutor living in Alola have given up their psychic powers in exchange for draconic powers that have been long dormant for many years. The main reason for Exeggutor gaining Dragon-type powers is the strong sunlight from Alola. These heads help them spot opponents sneaking up from behind, though they can also attack as well if necessary. Though most predators stay far away from these giant Pokémon, some have learned to take advantage of their height, zipping around their feet until they loose balance and keel over. They attack foes by swinging around their heads like giant whips, though this action makes them dizzy as well.

Natural abilities[]

Exeggutor can have the ability Chlorophyll. This causes Exeggutor's speed to rise when it is sunny.

Alolan Exeggutor can have the ability Frisk which reveals the opponents' held items.

Both Exeggutor's hidden ability, Harvest, has the chance of using a consumed Berry again.

Evolution[]

Exeggutor evolves from Exeggcute by use of a Leaf Stone.

  • According to in-game lore it is said that Alolan Exeggutor was its 'original' form. This is due to the tropical environment of Alola to allow Exeggutor to reach their full growth. In cooler climates of other regions, Exeggutor's growth is stunted, leaving it a short, stubby form that retains Exeggcute's Grass/Psychic typing.
  • In Alola, Kanto! in the anime and marks the first time, a normal Exeggutor has been compared to the Alolan Exeggutor as the latter became horrified due to its height.
  • Alolan Exeggutor is the tallest and heaviest Grass-type Pokémon.
  • In Super Smash Bros., Alolan Exeggutor is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it doesn't use a move, but instead, its tall body creates a barrier between the battlefield that can't be passed until it disappears.
  • Alolan Exeggutor is one of the collectable spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Alolan Exeggutor is Junichi Masuda's favorite Pokémon.
  • Alolan Exeggutor was the first Alolan Form Pokémon ever created.
  • Exeggutor, along with Exeggcute and Tangela were the only Grass-types not to be paired with the Poison type in generation I.

Origin[]

Exeggutor is based on a coconut tree with features of a pineapple. It may also be based on the Jinmenju, a tree-creature in Japanese myth that grew grinning heads instead of fruits.

Alolan Exeggutor is based on a palm tree with its long neck resembling that of actual coconut trees. Its Dragon typing may be inspired from the dragon palm or it might come from the Coca, an ancient dragon that has a name similar to the word coconut.

Etymology[]

Exeggutor is a combination of 'egg' and 'executor'.

Nasshī is a portmanteau of ココナッツ kokonattsu (coconuts) and 椰子 yashi (palm tree).
