Trivia

  • Excadrill was among eight Pokémon revealed on the show Oha Suta on June 27, 2010. It was officially revealed on the October issue of Coro Coro on September 11, 2010.
  • Excadrill was originally going to have darker blue fur and with mirrored body markings. But its design was later revised to change its color to brown and red, and its stomach stripes were reversed from left to right.

Origin

Excadrill is based on a mole while also sharing similarities to excavation tools.

Etymology

Excadrill comes from excavate and drill.

Its Japanese name, Doryuuzu, is likely a combination of ドリルズ doriruzu (drills), 土竜 doryū (mole) and 土 do (earth).
