Squirtle in Luminous Cave

Luminous Cave

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team and the remake Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, a player must first beat the game before they can evolve. At Whiscash Pond, a massive hole is in the center of the area. This is Luminous Cave. Upon entry, a mysterious voice will ask the player if they want to evolve a Pokémon. If the player has the necessary evolution stone and the Pokémon they wish to evolve is alone, they can evolve their Pokémon using the stone.

Luminous Spring

Luminous Spring

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, the player's team must graduate from Wigglytuff's Guild to gain access to Luminous Spring, the only place in the game where the player can evolve a Pokémon. However, the player character and partner cannot evolve until they defeat Palkia and Manaphy returns.

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon

Throughout the storyline of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, the player character and their partner directly evolve to and devolve from their final forms three times, thanks to their Harmony Scarves.

The player can evolve Pokémon in the Tree of Life after beating the game, by talking to Xerneas. Although the only requirement of evolving is to achieve a certain level, some connected Pokémon are unevolvable.

Trivia

  • Out of all Pokémon who can evolve via evolutionary stones (Alolan Forms counted as individual species), only 2 of them (Eevee and Gloom) can use over 1 kind.
  • There’s a real life, jewelry rock called Moonstone. It’s unknown if the Moon Stone item is just an uncut and unpolished moonstone. Sunstones are also a thing, with the same ambiguity.
  • Out of all Pokémon who can evolve via evolutionary stones (Alolan Forms counted as individual species), only 4 of them (Poliwhirl, Eevee, Kirlia, Snorunt) can evolve in other ways.
  • So far, Generation VII and Generation VIII are the only Generations where no new Pokémon evolve via evolutionary stones (excluding Regional Forms of existing Pokémon).
    • However, Generation VIII is the first Generation to change a Pokémon's evolution method to evolutionary stones, as the removal of Moss Rocks, Ice Rocks and special magnetic fields caused several Pokémon to require specific stones instead.
  • The Water, Leaf, and Moon Stones evolves the most variety of Pokémon, each tying with six different Pokémon needing them to evolve.
  • The evolved forms tend to have dramatically different level-up learnsets, with the majority of these learning no new moves at all, such as Togekiss and Roserade. A notable exception is Sunflora, which has a roughly identical level-up learnset as Sunkern.
  • During the development of the Generation II games there was going to be a new stone called the Poison Stone which was the beta form to evolve Eevee into Umbreon (Umbreon was going to be poison type during the development) and Weepinbell into a new form (which was later discarded) but the poison stone was discarded in the final games for unknown reasons.
  • There are a handful of other stones related to evolution:
