Eruption inflicts damage. Its power is calculated using the formula below:
In other words, its power decreases if the user's current HP decreases. However, the power cannot be lower than 1.
In Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, Eruption is one of the moves that destroy a yellow rock in the background of a battle when it is present.

- All of the Pokémon who are able to learn this move are fire types, except for Groudon, but when it becomes Primal Groudon, it gets the STAB for Eruption.
- Cyndaquil and its evolution line are the only starter evolution to learn Eruption.
- As of the Generation VIII, Torkoal is the only Pokémon able to learn Eruption.
