Electivire (Japanese: エレキブル Erekiburu) is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

Biology

Physiology

Electivire is a strong, yellow Electric-type that resembles a yeti or Sasquatch and has two long black tails with red tips that look like LED light bulbs. It hangs around power plants to feed and gain more power.

Natural abilities

Electivire's special ability Motor Drive renders the foe's Electric attacks useless and just powers up the speed of Electivire, making it a formidable foe.

Evolution

Electivire evolves from Electabuzz when traded while holding an Electirizer. It is the final evolutionary form of Elekid.

Gary has an Electivire, and used it to battle with Ash's Pikachu. This new Pokémon inspired Ash to go to the Sinnoh region when Gary told him that he caught it in Sinnoh. Electivire wasn't officially released yet and was seen in this episode. The episode was the finale to Pokémon: Battle Frontier, this episode also released the official English name for Electivire.

In the "Diamond and Pearl" series, it was later followed by Paul's Electivire after evolving from Electabuzz and it was used during the Sinnoh League against his rival, Ash's Infernape.

Trivia

  • Electivire's debut episode number is the same as its National Pokédex Number; 466.

Origin

Electivire is based on a gorilla, orangutan, or possibly Bigfoot or a Yeti. Its antennae are based on Tesla coils, and the circular symbol on its back resembles an electrical outlet.

Etymology

Electivire is a portmanteau of "electric" and "wire."

Erekiburu is a portmanteau of "electric" and "cable" or "brutal."
