Eevee (イーブイ, Iibui?) (EE-vee[1]) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is the Rival's First Partner Pokémon in Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu!. It is also the version mascot and First partner Pokémon for the player of Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! (although it was originally intended to be in Yellow) as well as Pokémon Conquest and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. In addition, Eevee also has a Gigantamax form.

Biology[]
Physiology[]
Eevee is a small quadrupedal, mammalian creature with fluffy brown fur, that bears feliform and lagomorph traits. Its muzzle is very cat-like, with a small, black and triangular nose. It has a fluffy, cream-colored ruff around its neck and a short, brown, bushy tail with a cream-colored tip. Eevee has round, brown eyes, long rabbit-like ears, and pink paw pads on its feet. Its paws are small with three toes and no visible claws.
Eevee as a Shiny
A Shiny Eevee has silver fur instead of brown, and its ruff and tail-tip are white instead of cream. Its eyes are also gray instead of brown.
Eevee is said to have an irregularly-shaped genetic structure, enabling it to evolve into multiple different forms, which depends if it touches a stone or its relationship to their Trainer.
As Gigantamax Eevee, its body becomes larger. Its ruff grows longer and fluffier with several triangular furs pointing straight up. The right ear has three red clouds surrounding it in a circle. As the fur becomes fluffier and more luxurious, any enemies caught in it will lose the will to fight due to being enamored by its presence. Eevee's behavior also appears to be more playful and rambunctious when Gigantamaxing, desiring to play with its opponent and often unintentionally crushing them with its size.
The Partner Eevee has a lighter shade of brown of its fur, and has unique purple eyes, appearing similar to the Pokémon seen in modern episodes of Pokémon the Series.
Special abilities[]
Eevee are Pokémon with unstable genetic codes. This gives them the ability to evolve into eight different evolved forms triggered by the environment, time of day, friendship levels, or the usage of the evolutionary stones Water Stone, Thunderstone, Fire Stone, Leaf Stone (Generation VIII), and Ice Stone (Generation VIII).
Partner Eevee is also capable to learning special moves: Bouncy Bubble, Buzzy Buzz, Sizzly Slide, Glitzy Glow, Baddy Bad, Sappy Seed, Freezy Frost, Sparkly Swirl, and the Partner Power, Veevee Volley.
Behavior[]
In "Helping the Hometown Hero!", Eevee greet each other by sniffing the other's tail as done with Sandy and Chloe's Eevee. In most cases within the franchise, it is known as a happy and docile creature.
Habitat[]
Habitat in Paldea in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet
Eevee is a Pokémon found mainly in cities, although it is likely that they live virtually anywhere in the Pokémon World because they evolve into many different forms to suit their surroundings. Eevee can mostly be found in Kanto but is also seen in Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, Central Kalos, Alola and Galar. However, as with other first partner Pokémon, Eevee is normally extremely rare, as most games only have one specimen available to the player until Generation IV, with some being absent altogether.
In Paldea, Eevee (Lv. 30) is most abundant in the grasslands north of Medali. Eevee can also be found around the entrance to the Pokemon League (Lv. 7) northwest of Mesagoza and in the fields west of Cortondo (Lv. 10), although it spawns more rarely here. The League route is particularly unreliable. As mentioned, they tend to spawn near urban settlements, so if you stray too far from town, pull back. If there's still no luck, try leaving and returning to the area, e.g. by flying to a distant town and then straight back to reload the area and reroll the spawns. Another tip is to try eating a Ham Sandwich to increase encounters with Normal Pokémon. Eevee usually spawns solo rather than in groups.
Gender differences[]
The female Partner Eevee
Eevee did not had a gender difference until Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!; A male Partner Eevee has a zigzag pattern at the tip of its tail (which was once for universal genders). A female Eevee has a rounded, heart-shaped pattern at the tip of its tail. This was likely meant to correspond with Pikachu's gender differences.
Since Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, however, these gender differences apply to all Eevee.
Z-Moves[]
Eevee is one of the few Pokémon in Sun and Moon which have a special Z-Move dedicated to them.
The Z-Move Extreme Evoboost is Eevee's signature move. The move is activated by the Z-Crystal, Eevium Z. Its base is Last Resort. Extreme Evoboost can be learned only by an Eevee with Last Resort, and becomes unusable if Last Resort is forgotten or if the Eevee evolves into one of its evolution.
Gigantamax[]
Eevee is one of the few Pokémon in Sword and Shield that can Gigantamax by having a special member from its species.
Gigantamax Eevee is the only known Pokémon capable of using the G-Max move, G-Max Cuddle.
Evolution[]
The various evolutions of Eevee
Eevee has eight different evolved forms, more than any other Pokémon has. They are often called "Eeveelutions" by fans. Each of Eevee's evolved forms is of a different type. These forms include:
- Jolteon if it touches a Thunder Stone;
- Flareon if it touches a Fire Stone;
- Vaporeon if it touches a Water Stone;
- Espeon when leveled up with high friendship during the day;
- Umbreon when leveled up with high friendship during the night;
- Leafeon when leveled up in Eterna Forest, Pinwheel Forest, Route 20 in Kalos, Petalburg Woods, Lush Jungle or wherever there is a Moss Rock in Generation IV to Generation VII, or if it touches a Leaf Stone in Generation VIII;
- Glaceon when leveled up on Route 217, Twist Mountain, Frost Cavern, Shoal Cave, Mount Lanakila or wherever there is an Ice Rock in Generation IV to Generation VII, or if it touches an Ice Stone in Generation VIII;
- Sylveon by knowing a Fairy-type move, while leveling up and playing with Eevee through Pokémon-Amie (Gen VI), Pokémon Refresh (Gen VII) and earning at least two affection hearts or when leveled up with high friendship (Generation VIII onward).

Pokémon Adventures[]
In Pokémon Adventures, Red was in possession of an Eevee which had been experimented on by Team Rocket. As a result, it could transform back and forth from the three evolutions: Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon along with its base form, allowing it greater tactical ability in fighting other Pokémon. Eventually, it evolved into an Espeon, losing its special ability to interchange abilities.
The Electric Tale of Pikachu[]
In The Electric Tale of Pikachu, the character Mikey (who appeared in the Pokémon the Series episode, "The Battling Eevee Brothers") made an appearance with his own Eevee and within the chapter that he appeared in, Mikey attempted to prove to his brothers that he didn't need to evolve his Eevee to win battles.
Trivia[]
Eevee with all of its evolved forms alongside Pikachu in the anime short Eevee & Friends
- Due to Eevee's cute appearance and itself having many unique evolutions (commonly known as Eeveelutions) unlike any other Pokémon, it is widely seen among the Pokémon franchise's community as a significant fan-favorite, rivaling if not surpassing that of Pikachu, the series' mascot. Although it technically has been popular since the original Generation I games where it debuted, the Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! title of Generation VII as well as the anime special "Eevee & Friends" had greatly increased its prominence among official media. Eevee is currently serving as the role-playing video game series' secondary mascot.
- Eevee and Pikachu, as seen in Yellow and Let's Go, are the only First partner Pokémon in the mainline RPG games that deviates from the usual Grass, Fire, and Water-typings.
- So far, Eevee is one of three Pokémon to have three or more evolutions, and is the only Pokémon that has four or more.
- Eevee was the first Pokémon to have a different evolution depending on the time of day, based on Espeon and Umbreon.
- Eevee's English name is a palindrome, meaning it is spelled the same backwards as is forward.
- Eevee, Poliwhirl and Gloom are the only three Pokémon that can evolve into more than one Pokémon using multiple elemental stones.
- An Eevee will be bonded to the player character in Pokémon Conquest.
- Eevee has by far the most evolutions of any Pokémon, with eight.
- Eevee is the Pokémon with the most evolutions using elemental stones so far, being three from Generation I to Generation VII and in Generation VIII being five.
- In the Eeveelution chain, all Pokémon evolving from Eevee have "eon" at the end of their names.
- It was the first Pokémon to be able to evolve by happiness in night or day, leveling up near the Moss Rock or Ice Rock up until Generation VIII, and having 2 affection hearts in Pokémon-Amie and knowing a Fairy-type move.
- Up to Generation VIII, Eevee is one of the few Pokémon to evolve in a certain location (near a Moss Rock or a Ice Rock). The others being Magneton, Nosepass, Charjabug and Crabrawler. However, Eevee is the only one of them that has more than one evolution.
- Similarly, Eevee is one of the ten Pokémon that evolves upon knowing a move. In this case, it needs to know a Fairy-type move.
- Despite requiring a Fairy-type move to evolve into Sylveon, the only Fairy-type moves Eevee can learn are Baby-Doll Eyes and Charm through leveling up.
- Also in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, once the Eevee evolves into Sylveon, it can learn Fairy Wind.
- Eevee is so far the only Pokémon that didn't originally have a gender difference but received one in a later generation game.
- Up to Generation V, all generations include at least 2 versions where NPCs will give the player an Eevee.
- In Pokémon FireRed Version, the Japanese Pokédex claims that Eevee have 3 evolutions while there are actually 5 in Generation III.
- The reason may be the lack of a time system in the game, which are necessary to evolve Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon.
- In the Super Smash Bros. series starting in the fourth installment, Eevee is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it uses the move Take Down.
- Eevee's English name was originally going to be Eon.
- Eevee was chosen as Pikachu's counterpart in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! primarily due to its popularity and also its simplicity.
- Until the Let's Go games, the only way the player could legitimately obtain an Eevee in a Pokémon game primarily set in Kanto was to get the one in the secret entrance in Celadon Mansion. In the Nintendo Switch titles, it was added to Route 17.
- Eevee got its cry from the anime (voiced by Aoi Yūki) in all games after Pokémon Let's Go, a feature that was previously exclusive to Pikachu.
- The Partner Eevee in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! is Shiny-locked. This means that this particular Eevee cannot be a Shiny Pokémon.
- Its model is also slightly larger than its standard counterparts seen in the wild or as Trace's first partner Pokémon in Let's Go, Pikachu!.
- Since 2018, Eevee has an official day by The Pokémon Company where it and its evolutions become celebrated, known as Eevee Day. It takes place on November 21th (11/21).
- Despite this, fans have created unofficial dates for Eevee's separate forms on social media, potentially leading to misinformation.
- In the 46th episode of the Pokémon Horizons: The Series, it shows the Terastallized Eevee with its Trainer of the student at the Naranja Academy.
- Like the Z-Moves, the Gigantamax move, and the Terastallized of Eevee, it is unknown that it'll have more Z-Crystals, Gigantamax moves, and the Terastallized for the eight evolved forms of Eevee.
Origin[]
An official Eevee plush
According to Motofumi Fujiwara, a key person at Game Freak, Eevee was based on a vague childhood experience he once had. He described seeing an "indefinable creature" and that Eevee was based on a drawing of all that he could remember of it. Despite its resemblance to certain animals such as foxes or rabbits, it wasn't actually based on any distinct animal, with Fujiwara mentioning that Eevee reminded him of a fluffy cat or dog-like creature.[2]
Each one of Eevee's evolutions are based on the same design but are made to resemble their specific type.[2]
Etymology[]
Eevee's name likely comes from the letters E-V, an abbreviation for the word "evolution". Its Japanese name, Iibui, literally means "evolve". Eevee's original name, Eon, is simply the word eon (a long period of time).
Names in other languages[]
- English, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish: Eevee

- Chinese: 伊布 / 伊貝 (HK)
