Dustox (Japanese: ドクケイル, HepburnDokukeiru) (DUS-tocks[1]) is a Bug/Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III and the evolved form of Cascoon.

Dustox evolves from Cascoon starting at level 10 and is one of two possible final evolutions of Wurmple.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Dustox is a moth-like Pokémon. Its body is purple while its wings are green with red circles in them. Its eyes are yellow with black dots on them. Upon its abdomen are four short "arms", which are red.

Gender differences[]

The male's antennas are larger than the female's.

Behavior[]

Dustox are nocturnal Pokémon, feeding on the leaves of trees after the sun sets. They use their antennae like radars to navigate without light, though their eyes are in fact quite adept at seeing in the dark. When Dustox flap their wings, they let loose clouds of fine, toxic powder strong enough to make pro wrestlers sick. They uses this in their defense, flapping and letting loose the dust to deter enemies.

Dustox are attracted to bright lights, a problem for many urban areas; they will often congregate along boulevards and avenues, attracted there by street lamps and large trees. In their wake, Dustox swarms leave behind lines of barren branches and large clouds of toxic powder. Though they will consume nearly any variety of leaves (even some toxic ones, which may have to do with their Poison-typings), Dustox have shown a particular affinity for the leaves of Persim trees, even sometimes feeding on the Berries themselves. This makes them a huge problem for Persim Berry farmers, who consider Dustox the primary pests of the business.

Appearances[]

Anime[]

A Dustox was owned by the Team Rocket member Jessie. It was caught as a Wurmple during her travels in Hoenn. Dustox was often used in Pokémon Contests in Hoenn, Kanto and Sinnoh regions. During Jessie's travels in Sinnoh her Dustox met a male, shiny Dustox and it fell in love with it. Then Jessie released it so it could experience love.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being able to fly, Dustox isn't Flying-type.
  • Dustox and Venomoth have many similarities.
    • Both are known as the Poison Moth Pokémon.
    • They have the same typing (Bug/Poison)
    • Both can have the ability Shield Dust.
      • Although Dustox always have the Shield Dust ability, and Venomoth do not always have it.
    • They both can fly, but neither of them are Flying-type or have the ability Levitate.
  • Pokédex entries state that "When flapping its wings, it will scatter a poison dust", but Dustox cannot learn Poison Powder.

Origin[]

Dustox may be based on a moth, specifically a luna moth. It may get its poison-type from how certain moths or butterflies can retain toxins from when they were worms or caterpillars.

Etymology[]

Dustox may come from dust (referencing its poison scales) and toxic.
