Biography

Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky

Dusknoir came from the future in order to capture Grovyle and the Player, who had traveled back in time to prevent the planet from becoming paralyzed. He used the knowledge of the future to quickly become a famous explorer revered for his wisdom. He is first met when he comes to Wigglytuff's guild to inquire about the expedition of Fogbound Lake. Wigglytuff lies to him that the expedition was a failure to keep the guild's promise to Uxie and Dusknoir decides to stay in Treasure Town for a while.

When the Player and Partner leave to retrieve the Water Float that Team Skull stole from Amp Plains, Dusknoir learns at Kecleon Market about the theft and leaves in a hurry as soon as he hears it. At Amp Plains, What Luxray/Manetric prepares to attack the Player and Partner with a large electric blast, Dusknoir intervenes and calms down the electric tribe. Dusknoir explains to the Player and Partner that the electric tribe is hostile to trespassers after they were attacked in the past and drives off Team Skull.

Afterward, Dusknoir talks to the Player and Partner on the beach and the two ask him about the Player's visions and amnesia. While Dusknoir has no knowledge of a human being turned into a Pokémon, he identifies the Player's visions as the Dimensional Scream. Through this conversation, Dusknoir realizes the Player is one of the targets he was sent to capture and the Player notices the slightest glimpse of his excitement.

When Grovyle's theft of the Time Gear at Fogbound Lake becomes known, Dusknoir offers his assistance in the search for Time Gears. After Grovyle steals the Time Gear at Quicksand Cave, Dusknoir uses clues from the Player and Partner's description of the events to determine the last Time Gear is located a hidden lake guarded by Azelf. He has the Player use their Dimensional Scream ability on a crystal Bidoof picked up to see a vision of the future where Grovyle is about to steal the Time Gear Azelf is guarding.

After Grovyle defeats the Player and Partner, Dusknoir appears before Grovyle can attack them further and the Partner discovers the two already know each other. Grovyle escapes and Dusknoir goes after him just before the guild arrives and takes the Player, Partner, and Azelf back to the guild.

Afterward, Dusknoir makes public announcement and reveals he and Grovyle are from the future. He concocts a lie that Grovyle is a criminal from the future wanting to cause the planet's paralysis and that he came to stop him. He forms a plan with Mespirit, Uxie, and Azelf to spread a rumor that they will seal away the Time Gear to prevent Grovyle from stealing it in order to provoke him into going after it and setting a trap for him.

When the team is finally informed by Officer Magnezone that Grovyle has been captured, Dusknoir gathers the guild and the citizens of Treasure town in the in the town square where Dusknoir has opened up a Dimensional Hole. He asks the lake trio to take care of returning the Time Gears to their proper places. After that, he wishes for the Player and Partner step forward so he can bid them goodbye. Seizing the opportunity, with a proclamation of it being too soon for goodbyes, he grabs them and drags them through the Dimensional Hole.

The team awakes to find themselves in a stockade where Dusknoir intends to have them and Grovyle executed. The trio escapes, yet Dusknoir and his forces pursue them relentlessly crossing the landscape. The Player and Partner learn the truth about Dusknoir from Grovyle and resolve to return to the past and save time. When the Player, Partner, Grovyle, and Celebi reach the Passage of Time, Dusknoir and his Sableye ambush them along with Primal Dialga. Dusknoir also reveals the Player is in fact Grovyle's partner turned into a Pokémon and given amnesia. However, the Player, Partner, and Grovyle are able to escape through the Passage of Time thanks to the Partner's quick thinking and Celebi also escapes Dusknoir's grasp.

Dusknoir returns once again when the team journeys to the Hidden Land and cuts them off at the Old Ruins. After a fierce battle, he defeatedly reveals the truth to the player: he/she will disappear if the collapse of Temporal Tower is stopped. He lunges out once more when the Player is distracted when the Partner declares the Rainbow Stoneship is ready to depart, which prompts Grovyle to sacrifice himself in order to take Dusknoir back to the future with him and allow the Player and Partner to continue unimpeded.

In the Future of Darkness

When Dusknoir and Grovyle go back to the future after the battle at the Hidden Land, Dusknoir awakens shortly shortly after Grovyle and tries to attack him, but his injuries from the battle prevent him. He then reveals that the reason he tried to stop the Player and Grovyle is because he doesn't want to disappear if history is changed. Grovyle leaves to battle Primal Dialga to buy time for the Player and Partner to change history. Dusknoir goes after him and when he catches up, four of his Sableye minions arrive and attack both him and Grovyle. The two fend off the Sableye and form a reluctant alliance to reach Primal Dialga for their own reasons. After interrogating one of the Sableye, the two learn that Dusknoir has been replaced by a new crafty minion.

When the two reach Temporal Tower, they discover Primal Dialga isn't there and surmise he went after Celebi to use the Passage of Time. When they reach Dusk Forest, the are ambushed by all six Sableye and defeat them. Dusknoir captures one of the Sableye and forces to reveal that Celebi fled to Frozen Island. The two travel to Frozen Island with of some Porygon and begin searching for Celebi.

When they reach the peak of Dark Ice Mountain, Dusknoir saves Grovyle a falling piece of ice controlled by hostile Glalie. After defeating the Glalie and the Mamoswine leading them, the two take refuge so Dusknoir can recover from the injury he sustained by protecting Grovyle. While they wait, the two have deep conversation about why Grovyle fights so hard knowing it will end with him disappearing. When Grovyle states his belief that he doesn't want to survive, but to live and shine and that part of him will carry forever through others he has met, Dusknoir contemplates this briefly before they two keep moving.

When they reach the end of Icicle Forest, Grovyle becomes trapped by electricity surging through the ice pillars while trying to save Celebi from Spiritomb. At the point Dusknoir reveals everything was a plot concocted by him to trap Grovyle inside the electricity in order to have it melt his spirit away. Dusknoir will then use return to the past and use Grovyle's body to attack the Player and Partner. Dusknoir gloats over his impending victory and remarks the reason Grovyle failed was because he trusted him. However, Grovyle reveals he still trusts Dusknoir and that he sense his hatred vanish during their travels together. He asks Dusknoir. He asks Dusknoir if he really wants to continue living in the hopeless future where he cannot truly live and Dusknoir's resolve wavers. Dusknoir ultimately saves Grovyle, but this incurs the wrath of Primal Dialga, who appears and brutally attacks Dusknoir. Primal Dialga's rampage is halted when time begins to start again and Primal Dialga warps away.

Afterward, Dusknoir realizes that Primal Dialga is instinctively going towards the Passage of Time on Vast Ice Mountain and if he attacks it, it could potentially be catastrophic. He, Grovyle, and Celebi travel to the mountain peak and confront Primal Dialga. After defeating Primal Dialga, the Pokémon of the future begin to disappear. As Dusknoir fades away, he asks Grovyle if his spirit shined and Grovyle answered it shone extraordinarily and Dusknoir disappears content. However, the Pokémon of the future later awaken and discover they are alive and well. Dialga, restored to his true self, explains that a being high than himself saved the Pokémon of the future. Dusknoir witness Grovyle sending a message on the wind to the Player and Partner that they will rebuild the future and that they are all alive.

Trivia

  • If the player loses the boss fight against Dusknoir and Sableye at Hidden Land, a cutscene involving Dusknoir and Sableye plays before the player's team is returned to the relay point for a chance to try again. This is in contrast with most boss battles, which show the player's partner admitting the defeat. [1]
