Template:PokéBoxPanelDuraludon (Japanese: ジュラルドン, HepburnJurarudon) is a Steel/Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII. Its counterpart is Tyranitar. While it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, it can Gigantamax into Gigantamax Duraludon.

Biology

Duraludon is a bipedal reptilian Pokémon resembling a lighter. Its body is light grey with tints of black markings on its palms and pubic area. It has a red "button" like appendage on its head and its connected to its upper jaw by a hinge. Its eyes are yellow and rectangular, almost robotic to an extent. Its tail has a vent, while it has 2 feet with just 1 toe.

Its Gigantamax form somewhat resembles a hybrid of its regular form and a skyscraper, Its "button" became an antenna, and windows line its body.

Behaviour

They live on mountains with Tyranitar and the two are often seen battling each other.

Abilities

Duraludon's body has the texture of polished metal which is both lightweight and strong, but rusts easily. This makes Duraludon more agile(supposedly if its speed is not taken into consideration) but forces it to always hide from the rain like Sudowoodo.

Its Gigantmax form can glow on some parts of its body, but is very sturdy and can withstand earthquakes.

Pokédex entries

  • Sword

Its body resembles polished metal, and it's both lightweight and strong. The only drawback is that it rusts easily.
Gigantamax: It's grown to resemble a skyscraper. Parts of its towering body glow due to a profusion of energy.

  • Shield

The special metal that composes its body is very light, so this Pokémon has considerable agility. It lives in caves because it dislikes the rain.
Gigantamax: The hardness of its cells is exceptional, even among Steel types. It also has a body structure that's resistant to earthquakes.

    Trivia

    • For some reason, it and Melmetal's cry sound like a transformer transforming between robot and vehicle mode.
    • Duraludon is the 1st Pokémon since Dialga to get the Steel Dragon type.
    • Duraludon is the 1st Pokémon to have both Light and Heavy Metal abilities without one being hidden.
    • Duraludon's hidden ability may be considered redundant as it does the same thing as Barraskweda's.
    • Duraludon is the first known Pokémon to be able to use both Steel Beam and Draco Meteor.
    • Although Duraludon's Pokédex entry suggest it is quake proof, it does not have an immunity to Ground Types, nor does it have Sturdy.
    • Duraludon is the only Pokémon revealed during its Pokémon direct to not evolve.

    Origin

Duraludon may be based on a theropod dinosaur. Its rivalry with Tyranitar mirrors the rivalry of Mechagodzilla and Godzilla, respectively. It physically resembles a lighter. Its mechanical nature, projectile combat capabilities, and theropod-like appearance may also reference Metal Gear REX.

Its Gigantamax form resembles a skyscraper, specifically The Shard, the tallest building in the UK.

    Etymology

Duraludon comes from duralumin (an aluminum alloy), durable, aluminum, dragon, and -don, a suffix usually used in dinosaur names. Its Japanese name may also derive from Jurassic, which is one of the three periods of the Mesozoic era, which was known as the age of the dinosaurs.
